IndyStar is seeking a reporter to cover pop culture - from announcing and reviewing concerts to keeping a finger on the pulse of what Central Indiana readers want to know about how the world of entertainment resonates with their lives.
IndyStar is winner of three Pulitzer Prizes, including in 2021 for national reporting. You'll work with and learn from some of journalism's best while living in a surprisingly vibrant and diverse city in the heart of the Midwest.
The pop culture reporter will employ analytics to hone in on the stories that matter to Hoosiers in the world of pop culture. Not only must this reporter enjoy going to concerts as part of the job, he/she/they should understand what bands make our readers sing. This reporter will also play a critical role in covering major tentpole events in our city, including annual events like the Indy 500 and marquee events such as the WNBA All-Star Game.

Key responsibilities:
• Covering breaking pop culture news, such as concert and other entertainment-related events announcements.
• Identifying which concerts are of greatest interest to readers and reviewing those with an eye towards sharing highs and or lows.
• Finding enterprise stories in the world of pop culture with ties to central Indiana.
• Note: This beat will include night and weekend work as pop culture does not conform to a 9-5 Monday to Friday schedule.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least two years of professional journalism experience.
• An entrepreneurial approach to growing audience and a dedicated following.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to take photos and record video/audio in the field.
• Solid news judgment that's guided by experience with audience metrics.
• Strong sense of journalism ethics and grounding in basics of media law.
• Commitment to reporting with fairness, compassion and sensitivity.
• Dedication to accuracy.
Expected pay range:
The salary will range from $50,000 to $65,000 commensurate with experience.
