The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is seeking an innovative, passionate and digitally savvy reporter to join our team of four journalists covering the Green Bay Packers for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, as well as PackersNews.com. We are looking for a creative and forward-thinking multimedia journalist with experience covering NFL or major-college football who has a proven ability to excel on multiple platforms.

We want to maintain our highly dedicated audience of Packers fans, both locally and around the globe, but also expand our reach by looking for new ways to tell stories across platforms - text, video, audio, social media. We are looking for someone who can appeal to die-hards and casual fans alike - someone with a vision for this always-evolving position on a highly competitive beat.

This position is responsible for video work including postgame analysis, locker room interviews, enterprise and player features; producing twice-a-week podcasts; and writing breaking news and regular updates on roster moves, injuries and player status.

We're seeking someone who is at home both in front of and behind the camera, familiar with YouTube, TikTok, Facebook Live, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), and adept at hosting and producing podcasts. The ability to engage followers and build an audience through insightful analysis, compelling features and unexpected enterprise on visual and social platforms is crucial.

Anyone in this position must be able to work collaboratively with our existing team of reporters and editors in Green Bay and Milwaukee.

Among the qualities we're looking for is a journalist who excels at:

  • Interacting with audiences via a variety of digital channels, including social media, video, Q&A chats, live coverage, podcasts, etc.
  • Plugging into metrics to respond to what's resonating with audiences.
  • Exploring trends, issues and behind-the-scenes features concerning the Packers and NFL.
  • Ability to build the PackersNews and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel brands.
  • Strong ethics and principles of fairness and honesty.
  • Aggressive, independent reporting and clear, insightful storytelling. Cultivating sources while maintaining a journalistic arm's length.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism or related field.
  • Previous reporting experience preferred; even better if you've covered sports.
  • Expert at using social media platforms; including but not limited to Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and Reddit.
  • Experience shooting and editing photos and video on a mobile device.
  • Command of AP writing, spelling, grammar and style.
  • Strong fact-checking and reporting skills.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented and flexible.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively inside and outside the organization.
  • This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
