The Fayetteville Observer, part of the USA TODAY Network, is looking for a motivated self-starter to be part of a two-person team covering ACC athletics in North Carolina, with a primary focus on Duke athletics with an emphasis on basketball.
As a national brand with a competitive press corps, breaking new ground on the Duke basketball beat is obviously not easy. So we're seeking someone who is ambitious, can find news and not just follow the crowd. If you can do those things, thanks to the patience and persistence to build quality sources, this opening is for you.
We want someone who will create a following on the beat by writing with voice and authority and not be afraid of alternatives story paths - through both writing style and dissemination on traditional news sites and through social media. This reporter also will be comfortable using metrics to understand the kinds of enterprise and day-to-day content that is gaining positive reader response.
