Audience Coordinator, Distributed Platforms - Temporary

Remote

The USA TODAY NETWORK is looking for an early-career journalist to join us on a temporary 6 month basis as an audience editor focused on distributed platforms.

This editor will work with the audience growth team to help our local newsrooms maximize the reach of their key investigations and projects, executing on audience plans with our partners, like Apple News and Smart News. They will coordinate across multiple newsrooms and tentpoles to ensure coverage receives maximum audience.

We're looking for a curious self-starter who is supremely organized and detail-oriented and thrives in a deadline-driven environment. The right candidate will also be eager to learn audience growth strategies from social media to SMS to newsletters for our local journalism and be excited to be immersed in the work of newsrooms across the country, as a large part of this job to reading journalism and knowing the newsrooms. You will lead efforts to train newsrooms on partnership workflows and best practices and report results and reach insights to our journalists.

The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of audience metrics, engagement tactics on social media platforms, and search engine optimization. This role can include early morning, night and weekend work.

This position is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii. If you live near one of our local newsrooms, you may have the option to use that as a base of operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain relationships with platform partners, working collaboratively with our newsrooms on solutions as issues arise.
  • Work with newsrooms on pitching content to partners around key stories and large events.
  • Use audience metrics as a guide to curate content for partner platforms, ensuring that regional and statewide content is also represented, where appropriate.
  • Work with newsrooms to ensure we have content to promote for key topics of interest for partners.
  • As needed, work with editorial teams on network wide promotion strategies, helping our national content reach local audiences.

Requirements:

  • 1-2 years experience; this is an entry-level position
  • Attention to detail, organization and accuracy.
  • This is the ideal role for someone who is a curious self-starter and would like the opportunity to be immersed in the journalism of newsrooms across the nation.

The hourly rate for this role will range between $22.00 and $25.00. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
