About the team

For this Instructional Coach position, you'll be working for our high school in center city Philadelphia called Freire Charter High School (9th-12th Grade): One of the first charter schools to open in Pennsylvania, Freire High School was founded in 1999 as the flagship Freire Schools campus. 100% of the Freire High School Class of 2023 were accepted to college, and 2023 graduates earned at least a combined $8 million in scholarships and financial aid offers for college. Freire High School's rigorous, creative curriculum and comprehensive academic and emotional supports help our students thrive in high school, in college, and beyond.

What you'll do

Reporting to the Head of Academics, you'll work together with teachers and school leadership to identify and support teachers who need instructional help. You'll facilitate teacher growth and development in ways that lead to higher student achievement!

Responsibilities

  • Use a high-touch point, actionable approach through classroom observations followed by varied strategies such as co-planning, modeling, role-playing and interclass visitation to aid in the growth of our new and veteran teachers.
  • Co-teach alongside the new teachers that they work with as a method of observation.
  • Support in the additional roles that come with an instructional leadership position including (but not limited to) scheduling, hiring, project management, test coordination, professional development planning, IEP work, and brainstorming solutions to problems.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • 3+ years of teaching particularly in high-needs schools.
  • Prior leadership experience (e.g. teacher-leader experience: mentor teacher, department chair, grade-level chair, extra-curricular leadership; school leadership experience)
  • Superior grasp of effective instructional methods that allow students to do the intellectual heavy lifting
  • A strong ability to develop relationships and work with various members of our school community, from students to teachers to heads of school.
