About Freire Schools
Established in 1999, Freire Schools (www.freireschools.org) is a network of four charter schools across Philadelphia and Delaware whose mission is to prepare students from historically underserved communities for success in college and beyond. About the team
For this College Counselor position, you'll be working forour high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade): Freire is all about Graduation x 2 - graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. The Class of 2023 received acceptances into 81 unique colleges and universities and more than $10M in scholarship award offers. This success is possible because the Freire Wilmington community is a true family, where students and teachers work together to build the future each student wants and deserves.
What you'll do
You'll do whatever it takes to ensure our senior class is successfully navigating college applications, career exploration, and academic responsibilities. Our college counselor plays a critical role in ensuring that our students are connected with all of the resources and tools available to be college ready by graduation.
Responsibilities
- Monitor student academic performance, behavior, attendance and connect students to appropriate supports as needed
- Serve as liaison between parents/students/teachers regarding academics/behavior/attendance
- Support students in navigating applications, financial aid, and College Board.
- Communicate with teachers regarding assignments, student concerns
- Work with students to develop study skills and organization skills
- Attend grade team meetings

Minimum requirements
- School Counseling Certification
- Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done
- Previous successful experience working with urban youth
- Great communication skills
- Experience with Naviance and College Board.
Pay and benefits
The annual salary range for this role is $48,000 - $90,000.
We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications. Our benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and more. Delaware employees are enrolled in Delaware's state pension plan (and may additionally choose to participate in the state's 403(b) retirement plan).
