In this role, you are part of the Trade Services team that supports a portfolio of products, including Customs Digitization, Climate, Capital and Duty Drawback. Your primary focus will be the Customs Digitization product, but you will support other products too from time to time.

The Customs Digitization is automating customs declarations to an unprecedented level. We bring automation that is currently only available to the world's largest companies who have the money to invest in such tooling, to every entrepreneur who wants to move any amount of goods. We are making the process fully digital, leveraging AI/LLMs to digitize all the documents required for the customs entry declaration.

This position reports into the Customs team in Amsterdam. The position will work closely with stakeholders and users in the United States, which will require working US-friendly hours around once per week.

You will:

  • Take point on complex product initiatives and run them to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices and coding standards.
  • Safeguard code quality on your team, reviewing others’ code with an eye to performance and maintainability.
  • Work closely with business partners to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
  • Be part of a close-knit engineering team that ships new code every day.
  • Geek out about shipping and logistics. (We do this often.)

You should have:

  • >3 years experience writing software and a strong engineering background.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns.
  • A love of simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.
  • Ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business stakeholders, product managers, and engineers alike.
  • A self-starter attitude. When you see a problem, you solve it.
  • Strong knowledge of at least one programming language such as Java, Python or Kotlin
  • Exposure to LLM-powered development tools, like Claude Code or Cursor.

How we work:

  • We come to the office three times a week to hang out, have lunch, white board, and collaborate
  • We have the latest and greatest hardware and software for you to work with
  • We’re agile, but not married to a single doctrine like scrum. The teams decide how they work best.

Our Stack:

We’re coming from a React/Flow + Ruby on Rails monolith, and moving to React/Typescript, Kotlin Microservices on Kubernetes. We also use and love GraphQL, GRPC, Postgres, Kafka, Snowflake and Python for AI/LLM integrations.
