The Opportunity: 

Join Flexport's Global Trade Compliance team as a Senior Compliance Program Manager, a key role for a professional with deep expertise in trade compliance and project management. In this role, you'll be a "source of truth" and topic expert across multiple trade compliance programs, providing practical and creative solutions to complex problems for both internal and external teams. You will play a pivotal role in identifying and building new compliance programs, using your project design and management skills to deliver under tight timelines. This position is ideal for an experienced people manager who excels at guiding and mentoring others to help them succeed.

Program & Project Management (Heavy Focus):

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and the "source of truth" for the team and associates across various trade compliance programs.
  • Provide practical, creative solutions to complex problems, empowering internal and external teams to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Identify programs that need to be built and design special projects to meet departmental and company objectives.
  • Manage projects and coordinate the activities of other personnel.
  • Structure and contribute to compliance programs and policies from the ground up, including documentation, training, and auditing.
  • Ensure all training material is current and accurate, and provide training for external clients on regulatory requirements.

Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Provide guidance and unblock others, acting as a mentor to help grow teammates.
  • Establish best practices and coordinate methods to ensure policies are implemented and adhered to.
  • Provide guidance to Compliance Operations Associates (COAs) to improve on identified gaps and streamline processes.
  • Mentor and guide others to excel in their careers and deliver high-quality projects on time.

Auditing & Process Improvement:

  • Identify regulatory audit requirements and structure audit programs to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in audits and the automation and ingestion of AI into our audit processes.
  • Continuously work to deliver on the company's promise of "Free Trade Through Technology".
  • Design administrative systems to ensure proper record retention across programs.

You should have:

Experience:

  • 10+ years of trade operations/compliance experience.
  • Previous experience in compliance management with a freight forwarder, exporter, or importer.
  • Experience designing and managing complex cross-functional compliance programs.
  • Proven experience as an inspirational people manager who excels at guiding and mentoring.
  • Ability to adapt and learn to new tech quickly.
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) preferred.
  • CCS, CES, MCS, MES preferred.

Skills & Qualities:

  • Superior organizational talent with a methodical approach and next-level attention to detail.
  • A master at running Excel and analyzing compliance data.
  • Ability to execute projects independently and on time.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • A strong aptitude for understanding and applying complex regulatory requirements, such as FMC, TSA, EAR, and ITAR.
  • A "can-do attitude" and the courage to challenge the status quo to "see something broken? Fix it!".
