With revenue growing at breakneck speed, Flexport is looking for a Customs Associate Manager to help shape our customs team in Amsterdam. This is the perfect position for an experienced customs declarant with a background in customs who is detail-oriented, process-orientated, and loves to build! The position will have you working alongside and learning from some of the smartest people in the customs & logistics industry as we challenge the status quo and reduce the friction in global trade and showcase clients how to simplify their customs flow.
What you'll do:
- Manage the daily operations of NL customs activities, ensuring smooth execution, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Directly manage, mentor, and empower a team of customs brokers, fostering a high-performance culture built on accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
- Be an expert customs advisor to current & prospective clients.
- Innovate by challenging conventional methods and introducing new, efficient ways of working, whilst ensuring a high level of compliance.
- Support client onboarding, develop customs SOPs, and enhance overall customer satisfaction.
- Lead projects to develop new technology, introduce service offerings, and streamline workflow management.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive operational efficiency with a customer-centric approach.
- Oversee pricing and strategy for the Dutch market.
- Provide support to the sales teams on customs topics.
The candidate must be able to demonstrate they have:
- Deep passion for customs and compliance, staying current on industry updates and actively participating in trade forums.
- Experience with customs software (extra points for experience with AEB)
- At least 7 years of hands-on experience in customs and freight forwarding.
- At least 1 year (s) of experience in people management
- Extensive knowledge of the Dutch customs market.
- Proven ability to build processes, implement innovative ideas, and think creatively to solve challenges.
- Strong understanding of customs product classification, origin, valuation, and the EU tariff.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- A natural problem-solver with a proactive approach.
- Willingness to challenge the status quo when necessary—if something’s broken, fix it.
- High proficiency in computer literacy.
