Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, this Summer, we're looking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern located in our Richmond, VA site.

Reporting to the Lead Mechanical Engineers, the student will assist with daily engineering tasks while learning, collaborating and working alongside Engineers and cross-functional teams. The Mechanical Design Engineer Intern will work closely with sales, project managers, procurement, production, quality assurance and other engineers. The intern must be an adept problem solver, have an excellent eye for design, and be willing to work as part of a team.

What a typical day looks like:
  • Initial task to familiarize with each product on the production line
  • Assist Engineering Team to help identify root causes of failures in the manufacturing process
  • Collaborate with Engineering Team to evaluate proposed designs and processes for manufacturability
  • Working with CAD software, such as AutoCAD and/or Solidworks, to create drawing specifications in accordance with the needs of the client.
  • Attend team meetings and support project work as needed
  • Designing to NEC NFPA 70 and UL Listings propietary to specific product lines
  • Working on Redline drawings marked by the production and testing team
  • Helping with Bill Of Material (BOM) creation
  • Working on product and process developments/improvements
Student qualities we're seeking for this internship assignment:
  • Currently enrolled Junior/Senior undergrad student seeking bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related major
  • Enthusiastic about working in a manufacturing environment
  • Highly collaborative, creative and excellent communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an excellent understanding of mathematics.
  • Previous internship experience a plus!
Summer Internship Program Requirements:
  • Available to work 40 hours/week (in-person) for 10-12 week Summer assignment
  • Currently enrolled in 4-year accredited university
  • 3.0 minimum GPA
