Job Description:

The Vice President, Health & Welfare (H&W) Consulting position is within Fidelity's Workplace Consulting group, which is comprised of over 600 professionals who help clients solve some of the most sophisticated challenges. Workplace Consulting offers a broad range of services that touch on every area of benefits design, strategy, funding, communication and delivery. The target market is large companies (more than 5000 employees) although many valued relationships exist with much smaller organizations.

The Role

The Vice President, H&W initiates business development activity for Workplace Consulting projects and ongoing client opportunities. Additionally, the VP serves as a lead consultant on client assignments and is responsible for balancing revenue generation, productivity, client/project management, work quality and practice development. They also mentor less experienced associates, participate on cross-functional teams and promote teamwork within the practice, office and region.

  • Analyze benefit programs by examining utilization trends, plan performance, claims and enrollment data and performance metrics; Provides guidance and consultative support to clients based on findings
  • Lead collection, analysis, negotiations and finalizing renewals
  • Develop health and welfare program pricing and budgets; determine employee contributions and premium equivalent rates for self-insured plans
  • Perform marketing analysis including RFP creation, proposal collection, and vendor comparisons; Assist with vendor selection and performance criteria; Negotiate rates/pricing, contractual provisions and performance guarantees with new and current benefit vendors; and manage new vendors and exiting vendors during implementation process
  • Assess and respond to legal or compliance issues related to health and welfare programs.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge regarding the major health plans, administrators and other vendors available in the marketplace to consulting clients and prospects
  • Plan and deliver projects arising from client needs related to health and welfare benefit programs
  • Ensure clear and detailed understanding of the client needs and situation, including client's affirmation of our understanding
  • Develop project plans with accurate estimates of the time and fees required for completion.
  • Manage client expectations regarding project timing and fee estimates. Lead projects in accordance with quality standards and estimated time frames. Understand what constitutes a 'change in scope' requiring revised fee estimates and appropriate communication with all parties involved
  • Communicate regularly with the project team and practice management.
  • Be viewed as a reliable business advisor by internal relationship managers, clients, and prospects as it pertains to strategic human resource consulting, in particular health and welfare benefits
  • Initiate and effectively participate in business development activities
  • Serve, or be prepared to serve, as a lead contributor during client/prospect presentations. Effectively gather client/prospect information and document such information in a manner helpful to other consulting colleagues. Effectively present and discuss current issues with clients and prospects
  • Prepare effective letters, presentations, proposals, etc.; effectively deliver presentation to other associates and to clients
  • Apply effective follow-up skills and routines to secure as many business development opportunities as possible
  • Demonstrate team selling and the appropriate delegation of time and responsibility during and following the business development process
  • Generate new business of $1M annually
  • Participate as a cooperative, proactive team member in projects involving other associates throughout the practice, group and region
  • Accept coaching and other development feedback from associates within and outside the practice
  • Share information freely and pro-actively. Keep other associates apprised of current information, and ensure all relevant information is captured in client files
  • Help develop standardized work processes which improve quality and productivity

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • 10+ years of proven experience in benefit plan design, funding and/or administration. Background may encompass either consulting, plan sponsors or vendor organizations
  • A master's degree is preferred. Bachelor's degree is required
  • CEBS designation or actuarial credentials is required
  • Must have demonstrated competencies and experience in the following areas:
    • Selling consulting services to Fortune 500 companies
    • Solving difficult client problems in a complex environment
    • Generating creative and innovative solutions and resolving major project issues
    • Initiating and sustaining ongoing relationships with clients, internal business partners and other associates
    • Presenting project proposals and deliverables to senior management
    • Managing contractual provisions, including scope control and managing projects through to conclusion
    • Pro-actively teaching and mentoring others
  • Excellent analytical skills and communication skills (written and verbal), as well as strong interpersonal and team building skills
  • Detail oriented with the ability to lead many diverse projects with tight deadlines
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and own tasks to support clients
  • Strong Microsoft Office PC skills in Excel and Word

The base salary range for this position is $124,000-$262,000 per year.
Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
