The Role

Do you thrive in situations of coaching and motivating others to achieve exceptional results? We are seeking a dynamic and results oriented Underwriting Line Lead to join our fast-growing team.
As the Underwriting Line Lead you will play a crucial role in developing and managing our internal underwriting team. You will be responsible for overseeing daily operations ensuring the delivery of accurate and high-quality underwriting decisions with exceptional service to our customers. This role requires a strong combination of technical underwriting expertise, leadership capabilities and commitment to driving continuous improvement within the department.

What you'll do:
- Team Leadership and Development
- Recruit, train, mentor and manage a team of life insurance underwriters, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment
- Delegate and distribute underwriting workload appropriately or ensure equitable balance across the team and timely processing of underwriting tasks
- Conduct team member performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for development
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and adherence to best practices in underwriting
- Underwriting Oversight
- Oversee the underwriting process for individual life insurance applications, ensuring compliance with company guidelines, regulatory requirements, and legal standards
- Review and approve complex or high-value cases, providing guidance and expertise to the underwriting team
- Act as a point of escalation for complex underwriting inquiries and resolve issues effectively
- Stay up to date on industry trends, underwriting advancements and regulatory changes
- Process Improvement and Efficiency
- Analyze underwriting data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Identify opportunities to streamline underwriting processes, enhance efficiency, and improve turnaround times
- Participate in the development and implementation of new procedures and technologies
Expertise and Skills You Bring
Bringing with you 8+ years of progressive growth in life insurance underwriting and at least the last two years in a leadership or supervisory capacity, you possess a robust skill set in risk assessment, team management, and strategic oversite. Your professional path has been defined by a commitment to cultivating deep expertise in case evaluation with an underwriting authority limit of $3,000,000 or higher and developing high performance underwriting teams. Experience with third party evidence providers, automated underwriting or industry designations are a plus.
