SQUAD LEAD

The Role

Owns alignment on "what" and "when" work is performed through ongoing planning and prioritization of a product backlog. Partners with other product delivery leaders to influence broader strategic decisions, roadmaps and resource requirements, and set and refine the mission.

Responsible for balancing strategic and program level requirements in the product with core and maintenance changes including TLM, enterprise technology strategy prioritization.

Brings together a team of squad members to execute on specific product features. Enable working iteratively, innovate through testing and experimentation and learn from failures while celebrating success. Understands the technology ecosystem (standards, practices, processes & tools); translate, define and understand technical requirements needed to deliver capabilities/features.

Shared responsibilities with functional Chapter Leaders for quality delivery and releases of discrete product features and capabilities; as well as talent planning and squad member development.

Directly accountable to the product area leadership, with matrixed accountability to Technology leadership.

Dedicated to developing personal leadership and management skills.

Expertise and Skills you bring

  • Define and communicate squad mission, roadmap and establish objectives to motivate team and align partners
  • Research, analyze and recommend new feature opportunities aligned to product area strategies
  • Collaborate with Chapter Leaders, Architects and Scrum Masters where applicable, to plan and execute roadmaps and initiatives, measure and report on progress to leadership
  • Anticipate and prioritize client/partner needs through ongoing interactions to represent their voice
  • Manage squad backlog to prioritize, plan and execute against delivery sub-initiatives; ensure alignment on the "what" and "when" work is performed
  • Take input from functional Chapter Leadership (Technology) on core and maintenance, enterprise and security related backlog items for prioritization
  • Make trade-off decisions balancing quality, cost, and timelines
  • Ensure engineering excellence, quality delivery and releases of discrete product features and capabilities, partnering with other delivery leadership roles, such as aligned Chapter Leaders
  • Measure performance against established objectives and KPI's to deliver on agreed upon business, technology, and people results
  • Identify squad member expertise required partnering with functional leaders to allocate resources as needed and aligned to business standard.
  • Contribute to plans for aligning squad members in partnership with functional leaders, optimize talent utilization, create learning opportunities to develop skills in assigned product or capability.
  • Makes trade-offs across product teams to align resources to highest priorities based on product lifecycle & strategy
  • Coach and empower squad members to prioritize work, execute and achieve business results
  • Enable squad members to iterate, innovate, open and honest feedback, learn from failures and celebrate successes
  • Enable squad member growth, development and learning, in partnership with Chapter Leaders
  • Experience designing, developing and maintaining dynamic products and solutions
  • Financial services experience, preferred
  • Agile experience with Jira and Jira Align experience preferred
  • Data-focused approach to understanding customer needs, translate strategic objectives into action, and prioritize to improve value delivered
  • Grasp sophisticated product features and break them into clear and concise stories with well-defined business value and acceptance criteria and optimally communicate these
  • Experience leading, influencing, and motivating colleagues without formal authority, and have a track record of building high-performing teams
  • Establish and maintain unquestioning relationships as you work collaboratively across Fidelity to deliver business outcomes and seek out the expertise of colleagues to advise on your approach
  • Intellectually curious and model a culture of continuous learning, mentoring and coaching
  • Role specific skills, e.g., strong business/technical knowledge related to products providing financial guidance related to retirement
