The Group
Quantitative Research and Investing (QRI) is an investments and research division within Asset Management at Fidelity. We are responsible for the management and development of quantitative and hybrid quant/fundamental investment strategies and solutions while providing high quality quantitative, data-driven support to Fidelity's investment professionals, ensuring they have access to the most relevant data and advanced quantitative analysis.
The Role
The Portfolio Engineer will join the Systematic Equity Strategies (SES) group - a part of the QRI division. The SES team is responsible for the research, design, development, and implementation of systematic active and tax-managed equity strategies. Assets under management is approximately $20B and spans multiple equity products and customized separately managed accounts serving both intermediary and institutional investors.

The Portfolio Engineer will be part of the team responsible for designing, building and managing the QRI portfolio management platform, which will deliver asset management's intellectual property and QRI quantitative skill through investment decisions across multiple investment products.
The Value You Deliver
- Onboard new portfolios to our investment platform through collaboration with Portfolio Managers and Research, setting optimization configurations and validating results for various quantitative-based ETFs, custom institutional portfolios, and tens of thousands of SMAs.
- Work with CIOs, Portfolio Managers, Research, and Portfolio Engineering to setup and monitor portfolio management platform oversight.
- Assist the other Portfolio Engineers with the design and development of innovative capabilities within the portfolio management platform to enable scale and flexibility.
- Document processes and create procedures to enable high quality investment oversight for leadership.
The Experience and Skills You Bring
We are seeking individuals who have the following characteristics:
- 5+ years of meaningful experience in an investment role, preferably in Research or Portfolio Management.
- Graduate degree in Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- Solid understanding of capital markets backed with experience making investment decisions.
- Deep understanding of portfolio construction, portfolio theory, quantitative portfolio construction techniques, and statistics.
- Experience with portfolio optimization software such as Northfield, Axioma, or Barra.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Curiosity to investigate issues, creativity to develop solutions, and follow-through to see solutions to implementation.
- Experience with SQL, R, Java or Python, and data visualization.
- Familiarity with data science and machine learning techniques a plus.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent written and interpersonal skills.
Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
