The hardware design assurance team supports Zebra's promise of quality to our customers and is responsible for ensuring products meet specifications throughout program phases from components to final product.

In this role, you will be part of the handhelds, wearables and tablets design team, and provides all design assurance deliverables required in the development process at each phase.

Responsibilities:

Evaluates the materials, properties and techniques used in production of Zebra's devices or solutions
• Advises design engineering on the selection, application and test of mechanical and /or electronic components, optical/machine vision or autonomous systems and solutions.
• Recommends design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability
• Determines reliability requirements of components and systems to achieve company, customer and any governmental agency reliability objectives
• Uses statistical methods to design reliability and verification test plans
• Participates in creation and analysis of qualification test plans and results
• Creates and analyzing designed experiments to determine main effects of low complexity device sub-systems to improve designs
• Uses hypothesis testing and other statistical methods to assess the significance of test results
• Actively reviews, understands and applyies the Market Requirements Document and Engineering Specifications to quantify metrics and acceptance thresholds
• May be responsible for quality and reliability sub team activties to support the initiatives of the core development team, program manager or product line management deliverables

• Leads Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and Quality Function Deployment efforts
• Communicates proactively with the project team and other stakeholders about progress against reliability analysis and results. Uses experience and knowledge to proactively identifies risks to the project and contribute beyond personal scope of deliverables. Contributes to overall project leadership.

Typically supports multiple derivative and/or platform New Product or Sustaining projects
simultaneously. Supports department intiatives related to product quality and reliability.

• Makes recommendations for changes in the selection and application of components and systems to drive improved reliability working directly with the design team

• Demonstrates working knowledge in design for quality tasks, design FMEA, inspection fixture and measurement systems, MVT build qualification and correction action of results to appropriate core team discipline lead.

• Actively participates in program Risk Assessment and mitigation activities.

• Assists project team in understanding technical issues and suggest testing or other approaches to determining root cause and corrective action.

• Acts independently to apply knowledge to resolve novel issues or concerns about design approach and conformance to standards.

• Analyzes and approves Engineering changes to production products

• Contributes to innovation efforts by participating actively in brainstorming activities and actively benchmarking externally with other organizations on best practices in design assurance.

• Provides product qualification or reliability test leadership over the life-cycle of the product to support cost saving initiatives, end of life part requalifications, second source requalifications or critical design improvements due to field performance or customer escalations

• May mentor or oversee the work of more junior level team members.

• May participate in special projects as a representative of the DAE team or support process improvement activties within the broader function.

• Provides product qualification or reliability test leadership and experience in testing methods applicable over the life-cycle of the product to support cost saving initiatives, end of life part requalifications, second source requalifications or critical design improvements due to field performance or customer escalations

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical, Reliability, Software Eng. or Computer Science) or equivalent STEM, (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) based degree
  • 5+ years minimum Work Experience
  • Experience in hardware design assurance in Consumer or Industrial Electronics, Industry Automation
  • Some Familiarity with programming and automation tools (Python, PowerBI, Visual Basic, MS Office PowerApp and Power Automate)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge, skill, and problem solving ability on personal computer based systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with spreadsheet and statistical software programs.
  • Familiarity with ISO9001 and internal audit techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detailed and numbers oriented.
  • Six Sigma problem solving methodologies, Green or Black Belt certification or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer a plus.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge in design for quality tasks, design FMEA, inspection fixture and measurement systems, MVT build qualification and correction action of results to appropriate core team discipline lead.
  • Exposure to updated technology
  • Working knowledge, skill, and problem solving ability on personal computer based systems
  • Knowledge and experience with spreadsheet and statistical software programs
  • Advanced Mathematics or Statistical methods and complex problem solving analysis tools and techniques
  • Detailed and numbers oriented
  • Industry certifications, advanced problem solving skills and Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification or ASQ CQE/CQM certification
