Facilities Maintenance Specialist (Senior) - m/f/d

Position Summary: Are you energized by the precision of automated parcel sortation systems? FedEx is seeking a talented individual to join our team at the Cologne Bonn Airport as a Facilities Maintenance Specialist(-Senior) - m/f/d with focus on troubleshoot and improve controls solutions for automated material handling equipment such as conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, scales, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, and control cabinets. The main goal is to develop and implement maintenance regimes that ensures reliability and compliance of such Material Handling Equipment (MHE) systems. This position also manages vendor performance in accordance with the contractual terms and leads defined local initiatives to improve maintenance solutions. Key Responsibilities: You will be actively involved in monitoring, troubleshooting and repairing our systems to ensure high system availability for the teams on site. You will be responsible for weak point analyses, concept development and the implementation of measures to optimize conveyor and building technology processes. You will work on the continuous improvement of MHE system availability and conduct internal training for the maintenance team. Strong ability to communicate complex problems across business teams. Experience solving complex issues across Controls, Fieldbus and IT Platforms. Working knowledge of Warehouse Control Systems and Telegrams. Knowledge of Machine Safety Regulations and Safe Working Practices. Deliver technical and non-technical system training to different business groups. Performs structured reviews of contracts to determine if new or revised elements are required to meet operational, cost reduction/control or legal requirements. Coordinates the implementation and approval of agreed contractual changes. With appropriate guidance, researches the capabilities of suppliers and evaluates and recommends to management viable alternatives. Coordinates cross functional projects relating to the installation, replacement, or upgrade of equipment as part of a lifecycle strategy. This includes the review of new predictive maintenance methods with a Central Maintenance department. Controls supplier costs in accordance with contractual terms and conditions and FedEx policies and procedures. Performs structured checks to ensure that all work is correctly justified, checked, approved before payment. Supports the budgeting process by providing input regarding expected changes of maintenance contracts and advises on capital replacement need to maintain the expected reliability of MHE systems. Builds effective relationships with suppliers and conducts regular meetings to review and service performance and compliance with the contractual terms. Obtains commitment to perform any corrective actions or changes needed. Builds effective alignments with local management and works with them to establish and prioritize maintenance solutions. Collaborate with Operations Technology team, control system specialist and other maintenance specialists with focus on mechanical engineering to address interdisciplinary challenges and ensure seamless integration of mechanical and control systems. Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in the field of electrical engineering or automation technology. Alternatively, comparable qualification such as German master craftsman (Meister) in the field of electrical engineering / automation technology. Ability to read and understand technical document and wiring diagrams. Experience with PLC based production systems (Allen Bradley and Siemens preferred) including troubleshooting experience. Experience with SCADA and HMI machines. Familiar with CE Machinery Directive. Fluent in German and minimum B2 in English. Ability to work in a shift every four weeks between Monday and Saturday (Start is 4:30pm). The other weeks are scheduled in regular day shift. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in the field of electrical engineering or automation technology. Experience with maintenance of automated parcel sortation systems. Ability to support troubleshooting of an IT architecture for production systems that includes managed switches, Windows Servers and how to remotely login. Experience with EPLAN, Microsoft Visio and AutoCAD Knowledge of Six Sigma that includes data analysis and process improvement techniques. Project management experience.
