Selected candidate may be offered up to a 25% recruitment incentive if eligible and will be required to sign a service agreement.

Key Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.
  • Travel is limited.
  • As a condition of employment, DNA samples are required from all FBI personnel who interact with evidence or federal DNA database samples in Laboratory Division (LD) space or whose work requires them to enter LD examination areas where evidence or DNA database samples are processed or examined as part of the quality control process to detect sample/evidence contamination, in accordance with the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA), 75 Federal Register (FR) 68932; 29 C.F.R. 1635.8(b)(6).
  • The individual that fills this position will potentially be exposed to situations or information that depicts violent acts, lewd images, or involves isolated working conditions.
Mission Statement:

Major Duties
  • Lead the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of cloud infrastructure and cloud-based solutions, leveraging modern capabilities such as containerization and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
  • Drive the appropriate usage of "as a service" offerings (e.g., Platform as a Service, Software as a Service) to enhance scalability and efficiency.
  • Modernize scientific workloads within our forensic laboratory, ensuring compatibility with cloud environments and optimizing performance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of microservices architecture and design principles for building scalable and modular cloud applications, including driving the implementation of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for seamless software delivery and automation.
  • Implement Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) practices and tools for continuous integration, delivery, and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Provide serverless capabilities leveraging AWS Lambda or similar technologies for efficient resource utilization.
  • Architect and maintain cloud solutions on AWS, with flexibility for Azure expertise as needed.
  • Act as the FBI's Cloud Solutions Architect, designing and refining cloud solutions to meet evolving needs.
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations, managing and optimizing cloud architecture for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to architect scalable and reliable cloud-based systems based on the requirements and business objectives.
  • Implement security measures and compliance standards across cloud environments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior cloud engineers.
Qualifications and Evaluations

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS-13: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
  • Hands-on experience in cloud computing and infrastructure management.
  • Familiarity of scripting solutions with Node.js (JavaScript), Python, Ruby, Java, Go, PowerShell, or similar.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud architectures.
GS-14: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. SE (in addition to above) is defined as follows:
  • Lead Cloud Engineering experience or similar (Lead Cloud Engineer, Cloud Operations Lead, etc.).
  • Experience scripting solutions with Node.js (JavaScript), Python, Ruby, Java, Go, PowerShell, or similar.
  • Experience designing and implementing high-availability, fault-tolerant cloud architectures at scale.
Desired Skills

Desired skills are NOT mandatory and will NOT be utilized to minimally qualify applicants.

Desired Skills are:
  • At least 8 years hands-on experience in cloud computing and infrastructure management.
  • At least 2 year of Lead Cloud Engineering responsibility or similar (Lead Cloud Engineer, Cloud Operations Lead, etc.).
  • Experience with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes for managing containerized workloads.
  • Ability to implement and manage hybrid cloud environments, integrating on-premises infrastructure with cloud services.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation for automating cloud infrastructure deployment.
  • Knowledge of data management and analytics services in the cloud, such as AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse Analytics, or Google BigQuery.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance frameworks relevant to the FBI Laboratory environment, such as NIST standards.
  • Experience in Microservices Architecture.
  • Experience in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Services.
