Job Description

As a valued colleague on our team, you will contribute to developing data infrastructure and pipelines to capture, integrate, organize, and centralize data while testing and ensuring the data is readily accessible and in a usable state, including quality assurance.

The Impact You Will Make

As a Sr. AWS Data Engineer you'll be a key contributor on the 12-person Fannie Mae Connect scrum team, helping to expand our external reporting platform to a broader internal audience. You'll work in a collaborative, agile environment where your technical expertise and curiosity about the business will directly shape how Fannie Mae delivers data-driven insights to customers and service providers. This role offers the flexibility to make each day your own while working alongside people who care deeply about impact and innovation.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain AWS-based databases and data pipelines (50% development, 50% maintenance/ops).


  • Perform application database administration, ETL development, and DevOps for database code.


  • Write and optimize complex SQL for reporting and analytics use cases.


  • Support sprint testing, production deployments, and lower environment changes.


  • Analyze new data sources and ensure performance, scalability, and security.


  • Recommend and implement database best practices and tuning strategies.


  • Collaborate on cross-functional initiatives including Tableau dashboards, Alteryx workflows, API development, and test automation.

Tech Stack You'll Work With

  • Databases: AWS Redshift, RDS Aurora Postgres


  • Languages: SQL, Python, JSON


  • Tools: DBeaver, Flyway, Excel, JIRA

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Required Experiences

  • 2 years

Desired Experiences

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering or database development.


  • Deep expertise in AWS database technologies and cloud computing.


  • Strong SQL skills and experience with performance tuning for reporting systems.


  • Experience working in agile scrum teams and collaborating across functions.


  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines for database code.


  • Passion for data, analytics, and learning the business domain.

Preferred (One or More)

  • Databases: Oracle
  • Languages: Java, Angular
  • AWS Services: Lambda, EC2, ECS, Athena, Glue, EMR
  • Tools: Cucumber: Alteryx, Tableau
  • AWS Database Certification (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty)
