Job Description

As a valued contributor to our team, you will advise on risk monitoring and reviews for the organization, coordinate risk mitigation activities, and provide risk mitigation assistance to other groups. You will be part of a team monitoring, assessing, and reporting on potential risks to the Company due to potential conflicts of interests as well as managing and documenting disclosures by employees of potential conflicts of interest, personnel issues, or other ethics-related matters.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

The Ethics Advisor role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessment, fact-finding, and interviews to execute conflict of interest and ethics analyses, strategies, and plans to support business units that are subject to specific regulations and/or company policies.
  • Act as internal consultant to business units to ensure adherence to compliance and ethics regulations and policies. Study highly complex data. Present insights and learning and draft memoranda. Advise management of significant findings in clear, practicable, and actionable language.
  • Assist Ethics Helpline colleagues foster an ethical culture throughout the company by appropriately responding to and triaging questions and reports into alleged violations of policies, laws, and regulations. Be part of a team that cultivates a culture of ethics and compliance within Fannie Mae.
  • Gather data, reports, and documentation pertinent to regulatory reports and filings for regulatory agencies. Implement optimum solutions considering policies and current regulations.
  • Assist with development, implementation, and improvements to conflicts and ethics-related policies and procedures and regulatory reporting matters.
  • Design, develop, and maintain initiatives and processes to track, monitor, and report on compliance and ethics activities, specifically those related to conflicts of interest. Evaluate results and navigate through ambiguity. Present insights and best practices.
  • Design, develop, and deliver training to staff on regulatory and company requirements related to conflicts of interest and ethics matters. Follow up with business unit management, staff, and other stakeholders regarding corporate training and mandatory classes.
  • Lead or perform projects at the highest level of complexity involving technology or the development of new procedures as a subject matter expert and to ensure that pertinent regulatory concerns are addressed in the project's outcomes.
  • Collaborate and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the company.
  • Analyze and stay abreast of industry trends and emerging risks.

1THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Required Skills & Experiences

  • 6+ years of related or translatable legal or compliance experience
  • JD degree is required
  • Excellent legal writing and inter-personal communication skills with the ability to present to and influence colleagues at all levels of the organization, including senior management.
  • Demonstrated experience in handling highly sensitive and confidential information with the highest level of discretion
  • Excellent professional judgment, ability and confidence to manage effectively to multiple deadlines with competing priorities
  • Highly collaborative; must demonstrate the ability to build trusting relationships throughout the company and interact with all levels of management.
  • Working knowledge of the compliance discipline
  • Keen attention to detail, ability to issue-spot, think creatively, and excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to develop expertise in department's technologies and applications necessary to role and track work in software.

Desired Skills & Experiences

  • Experience in analyzing and advising on complex legal and compliance matters, especially compliance and ethics questions and policies, conflict of Interest polices, and Codes of Conduct
  • Ability to build and collaborate effectively with teams, including developing and mentoring junior team members
  • Knowledge of the standards of ethical conduct and conflicts of interest applicable to large corporations
  • Experience in fact-finding, conducting interviews, and conducting research into precedent, and ability to develop and maintain best practices, exemplars, and work product to assist with responding to compliance and ethics matters, especially concerning conflicts of interests
  • Experience in serving as key a point of contact for employees in multiple areas of the company regarding corporate policies
  • Experience in developing training and communications content concerning regulatory requirements and experience in delivering training to employees
  • Experience in developing, communicating, and making recommendations concerning company policies and procedures relating to conflicts and intake of questions and reports

The hiring range for this role is set forth below. Final salaries will generally vary within that range based on factors that include but are not limited to, skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant qualifications.
