POSITION SUMMARY:

As a key member of the HW test and design team, this position will be responsible for leading the testing and development of hardware subsystems from inception to production release. Responsible for all facets of hardware testing and design.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for upholding F5's Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
  • Support offsite regulatory/safety/compliance testing
  • Perform in a lead capacity.
  • New product system level test and design, provide and maintain schedule for deliverables, deliver quality documentation, comprehensive product testing, supplier validation, design for testability and manufacturability.
  • Collect collateral and develop test boards to validate concepts.
  • Re-evaluate and tune the design & implementation of current products.
  • Conduct internal & external presentations.
  • Communicate with technical & non-technical colleagues and customers.
  • Invent new functions for products, synergies between products & methods for improving product efficiency & maintainability.
  • Work closely with Architecture team to author functional specifications.
  • Develop hardware from functional specifications. Ensure all features and functionality are incorporated into the design.
  • Author functional specifications for CPLDs and implement the design using Verilog HDL.
  • Train and assist Manufacturing team on new products. Continually support Sustaining Engineering team on legacy products.
  • Work with junior members of the product development team to review their work and provide feedback on ways to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Work on projects requiring advanced knowledge and expertise in an area of specialization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Hardware Design
  • Good understanding of basic electrical/electronics engineering concepts
  • Familiarity with schematic and PCB layout tools (ie. Mentor Graphic or Cadence Allegro)
  • Experience with low-speed interfaces - I2C, SPI, UART, etc.
  • Familiarity with high-speed interfaces - Ethernet (10G, 25G, 100G, and 400G), PCIe, USB, etc.
  • Familiarity with vendors a plus:
    • Intel, AMD - CPU
    • Broadcom, Marvell - Ethernet Switch
    • Altera, Xilinx - FPGA
  • Experience with electrical/electronics test equipment
    • Oscilloscopes, DMM, Spectrum Analyzer
General Skills
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Attention to detail
  • Focus on quality before quantity (patience for the process)
  • Good troubleshooting skills
HW Lab Support
  • Support engineering teams as needed
    • Racking servers, rework, debug
  • Familiarity with networking equipment - switches, servers, power distribution units (PDUs), etc.
  • Good soldering skills
    • Discrete components 0201, 0402, 0603, etc.
    • Small leaded packages, for example any small outline package (SOP) style part.
Software Skills
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux systems.
  • Experience with Python, Bash, Git
Test Support
  • Ability and experience with supporting offsite regulatory/safety/compliance testing. Examples:
    • Granite River Labs (GRL) - Santa Clara
    • Element (Newark, Fremont, possibly Portland (rare) )
  • Familiarity with regulatory/safety/compliance:
    • Compliance test experience
    • Knowledge of testing standards,
    • Experience with compliance test equipment
  • Familiarity with optical transceivers types (LR, SR, etc.), form factors (SFP, SFP28, QSFP, QSFP-DD) and standards
  • Basic knowledge of AC and Telco DC power distribution systems
  • Added plus would to be experienced with Spirent or Ixia traffic generation

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BSEE or equivalent required; MSEE is desirable.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in hardware testing and design.
  • 2+ years of network hardware experience preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.

The annual U.S. base pay range for this position is: $145,024.00 - $217,536.00
