Our client in furniture manufacturing is seeking a Materials Lab: Text Engineer/Sr. Test Technician to join their team. The Technician will perform testing to industry standards and to company specific tests on materials including laminates, foams, textiles, and wood and paint finishes. The ideal candidate will be curious, willing to learn, have exacting standards, flexible, hard-working, and a good attitude.

Job Title: Materials Lab: Text Engineer/Sr. Test Technician 
Location: Grand Rapids, MI (onsite)
Contract: Long Term, 1 Year (extensions possibly)

Pay Rate: $26.00 hourly

Key Responsibilities

  • This is a busy lab that supports both the development process and also the  manufacturing processes for the company, the Technician will perform testing to industry standards and to company specific tests on materials including laminates, foams, textiles, and wood and paint finishes.
  • They may also complete mechanical strength tests on materials, flammability tests,  packaging tests, and acoustics tests on company product.  Some lifting is required.
  • When trained the test technician will work independently and will be self-directed.  The technician is expected to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously completing tests and writing reports.  
  • The test technician will be responsible for the timely start and completion of each test request project with the final product of a written report.
  • They will interact with the rest of the Test Lab team and the company engineers and project managers to share test results and may work to find solutions to problems involving materials

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. An Associate’s Degree with work experience will be considered.
  • A knowledge of industry specific tests and testing equipment is required
  • Technical Writing Skills and data entry skills are required
  • Characteristics: curious, willing to learn, trainable, attention to detail, exacting standards, flexible, hard- working, motivated, adaptable, good attitude
  • With previous lab testing experience, motivated to suggest changes and improvements to enhance the operation of the laboratory.
