The Designer, User Experience (Platform) researches and designs human-centered experiences that empower users to discover and promote learning activities that address challenges faced by their communities and/or workplaces. This work is mission-driven and highly collaborative, involving ongoing teamwork with a passionate team of designers, product managers and engineers to validate, build, test and refine an intuitive and friendly user experience. In this role you will be joining the Platform UX team, working closely with fellow designers and the Director of UX to support and ultimately lead research and design projects that help us get closer to our users and better meet their needs with our software.

 Responsibilities:

  • Research, design, test, and maintain intuitive user journeys through a complex system - in this case, software that enables teachers, training managers, and outreach coordinators to share critical skills education with students, employees, and community members
  • Gain understanding of user needs through interviews, surveys, product usage reports, usability tests and other methods
  • Leverage design thinking and design system best practices to deliver creative solutions that meet user needs, business goals and technical requirements
  • Partner with product managers on concept validation, requirements and functional specifications, and with engineers and quality assurance specialists on feature delivery 
  • Understand success criteria for new features to ensure proposed designs are aligned with user needs and business goals
  • Review prototypes and released software to ensure usability and adherence to design system standards
  • Perform quality audits of software in production to continuously improve the quality and usability of our experiences
  • Participate in continuous improvement processes that increase team velocity and impact
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (interaction or human-centered design preferred), or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Minimum of 2 years working as a user experience designer for digital products, software application experience preferred 
  • Working knowledge of user research methods, design principles
  • Experience working within agile, iterative development teams
  • Experience building scalable products
  • Experience with design and prototyping tools, Figma preferred
  • Collaborative and curious, with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time to conduct user experience research
  • Portfolio representing experience in user experience research, design and validation across multiple platforms; case studies illustrating your design process preferred
