What's the role?

We are looking for an established product manager to improve the training data prototyping and creation experiences for ML practitioners at Etsy.

As the Staff Product Manager, Data Pipelines, you will drive the effort to craft a product strategy to help our ML teams prototype and develop training data in our internal data processing tools. You will lead two teams within our Data Applications Initiative to realize this vision. As a PM on our internal Enablement team, you will partner closely with our internal ML community, and develop a roadmap that improves their day-to-day experience of generating high-quality training data to accelerate our machine learning investments.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Group Product Manager, Data Enablement and the base salary range will be 172,000 - 224,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What's this team like at Etsy?

As Etsy scales, our data is growing fast. Rapid product innovation involves increased data production and consumption. This initiative helps our internal customers produce and consume trustworthy, discoverable, complete and shareable data at scale. This team will partner with two squads in the initiative, dedicated to our data warehouse and data processing offerings.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Develop a product vision and strategy based on quantitative and qualitative learning.
  • Perform product discovery to find opportunities/improvements for new and existing capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define priorities leading to high-impact execution and build close relationships with internal customers and partners to advance Etsy's ML capabilities.
  • Define frameworks and metrics for measuring our progress. Build a strategy to experiment and iterate on the internal product continuously.
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.


Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • Strong technical background in data processing, machine learning, and data infrastructure. Proficiency with Google BigQuery, Dataflow, and Spark is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing technologies and platforms.
  • A quick learner with unsatiable curiosity who thrives in leading and prioritizing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • An outstanding collaborator and communicator who knows how to drive decision-making and has the ability to influence through informal authority translating seamlessly between technical and business partners.
  • A trust in and commitment to Etsy's vision, mission and values.
