What's the role?

We are looking for a Software Engineer II, Payments to tackle practical problems in a strong engineering environment working in collaboration within a multi-functional engineering team.

As the Software Engineer II, Payments you will be contributing at all levels of our application stack, ranging from back-end technologies like PHP, MySQL to front-end web interfaces like JavaScript. Your role involves you working with database transactions, sharding, replication, performance, stability, metrics, integration resiliency and more! This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager, Payments Compliance & Tax. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.   • This is a full-time position within the Payments Compliance and Tax Foundations squad.
  • The Payments team at Etsy is committed to crafting and maintaining a resilient, streamlined and scalable payments platform. Available in 43 countries, Etsy Payments enables buyers and sellers to transact in 19 currencies and offers 12 different methods to pay for items on our site.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • You will build and maintain code responsible for the operation of critical systems that process billions of dollars in payments and require around-the-clock availability.
  • You will collaborate with other engineers within your team and across Payments to make effective use of our infrastructure and platforms, and also with other product teams that are building on our payments platform.
  • You will develop integration solutions for vendor products across multiple global initiatives.
  • You will be supporting the growth and operations of Etsy Payments as an agile and multifaceted product and afford our buyers and sellers the protection they expect. It's an exciting environment with the opportunity to effect change on an Etsy-sized scale!

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • Experience working with vendor integrations, especially payments is a strong plus.
  • You're an engineer who can turn ideas into reliable code that other people - or you, six months into the future - will find it easy to comprehend and modify.
  • You care as much about building great products as you do writing great code.
  • Code quality is critically important to you, and you can help your team and others improve the quality of existing codebases.
  • You have a curiosity about organization and breaking down large problems into smaller ones.
  • You can be autonomous, driven and a fast learner.
  • You can confidently communicate efficiently and effectively.
  • Enjoy learning about and interacting with the people who use your product.
