Etsy is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a team developing new features for Etsy sellers in our brand-new native app!
The seller experience is an integral part of Etsy's success as a two-sided marketplace. Buyers come to Etsy for unique items they can't find anywhere else, and to meet this need, we must attract, retain, and support the sellers who produce these one-of-a-kind items.

This team is focused on providing Etsy sellers with excellent mobile tools to start, manage, and grow their business on Etsy. We want sellers to have Etsy in their pocket, wherever and whenever they need it. Our mobile app is written using Flutter, a cross-platform technology, to ensure that all sellers get a great experience no matter what type of device they have.
Candidates for this role should have a track record of managing software development teams, including coaching engineers through significant career growth by aligning growth areas with team needs. This person should also have experience collaborating closely with cross-functional partners, such as UX design, research, analytics, and especially with product management to determine the strategic direction of the team. An outstanding candidate will have experience releasing high-quality native apps to a large user base and experience with Flutter.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Director and the base salary range will be 182,000 - 236,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What's this team like at Etsy?
- The team is made up of friendly, collaborative software engineers across North America, from early career, to engineers with a great depth of experience.
- They're currently focused on core seller workflows, building tools to allow sellers to create, update, and optimize listings.
What does the day-to-day look like?
- You would play a meaningful role in helping the team determine where to focus beyond listing management, such as when and how we should weigh greenfield product features like conversational commerce against opportunities to optimize our existing suite of mobile seller tools.
- Lead strategy and roadmapping, in collaboration with your peer team of cross-functional leads.
- Cultivate a strong engineering and delivery culture within your team, including coding best practices, delivery & quality expectations, governance & engagement with other teams who want to develop new app features.
- Provide technical guidance to the team as they work to establish their own engineering practices, build automation that directly mitigates repeatable challenges, and advocate to increase process efficiency related to those systems across Etsy worldwide.
- Hold your own in technical discussions, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence.
- Help your team find opportunities for reducing toil and avoiding technical debt to reduce operational load on the team.
- Build, maintain, refine, monitor, measure and evaluate the success of key metrics and regularly report on those.

Qualifications
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- at least 1 year of experience managing the roadmap and day-to-day workings of a software engineering team;
- experience in coaching engineers through career growth;
- a proven track record of managing a team to deliver and launch user-facing software;
- experience working with product managers to set the strategic direction for the team.
- Nice to have:
- experience working with UX designers
- experience with native mobile apps
- experience with Flutter
