Job Description:
Performs supervisory and management activities consistent with the expectations of Essentia Health and the Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations. Serves as the Pharmacist In Charge/Managing Pharmacist per Board of Pharmacy requirements. Participates in and oversees the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions to provide comprehensive pharmacy services. Number of direct reports (Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Clerk, Couriers) and budget responsibilities will vary by location.Ambulatory Pharmacy:This position performs all duties associated with interpretation, dispensing and monitoring of medications to provide quality pharmaceutical services to patients, physicians and other health care professionals. The pharmacist will optimize drug therapy to improve the patient's quality of life and health outcomes, while providing access to medications and immunizations. The pharmacist will also participate in clinical initiatives and assist in all aspects of the daily pharmacy department activities, including training of new staff and pharmacy students, supervision of pharmacy technicians and interns, resolution of customer service issues, billing, record keeping, monthly audits, and other functions necessary for optimal pharmacy performance. Job duties also include inventory control, care of supplies and equipment, and accurate cash handling. Number of direct reports and budget responsibilities will vary by location.Prescription Service Center Pharmacy:This position is responsible for all pharmacy functions related to the management of the Essentia Health (EH) Prescription Service Center (PSC) Pharmacy including personnel. The PSC Pharmacy encompasses the following service areas: mail-order pharmacy, central-fill pharmacy, call-center, custom packaging, and internal medication wholesaling. The main functions of this position will include development and oversight of core operations within the pharmacy to support the strategy of centralizing ambulatory pharmacy services. This position will also be responsible for managing the implementation of key pharmacy initiatives. These initiatives will initially include: MedSync, custom packaging, medication adherence, and CMS-Star measure performance. As the EH PSC Pharmacy grows, safety, productivity, and profitability must be continually monitored and optimized. These pillars will be supported by initiatives, which will require dedicated ownership from inception through implementation to measurement. This position requires strong analytical skills, as well as the ability to develop and manage relationships and communicate effectively across various levels of the organization. Education Qualifications:
A Doctorate or Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education. Ambulatory:Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (BS or PharmD degree required)Prescription Service Center Only:A Doctorate or Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.Minimum of three years of experience in mail-order/central fill, retail or specialty pharmacy operations 1-3 years of management experience strongly preferredExperience leading multi-site projects in a matrix organization structure preferredProject management skillsUnderstanding of IT development life cycleUnderstanding of Lean Six Sigma concepts and toolsLicensure/Certification Qualifications:
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
Acute:
- Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the Board of Pharmacy of the state in which they will be working (Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota)
Acute / Ambulatory:
If not licensed as a Registered Pharmacist upon hire, the candidate must have a Pharmacy Intern License and/or is eligible to work as an intern and must become a Registered Pharmacist within 90 days of hire:
- Minnesota: Must be licensed as a Pharmacy Intern through the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy
- Wisconsin: In the final months of a Pharmacy program. No registration required
- North Dakota: Must be registered as a Pharmacy Intern through the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy
- Ongoing continuing education and license renewal as required by the state's Board of Pharmacy.
Ambulatory:
- Licensed as a registered pharmacist by the Board of Pharmacy of the state in which they will be working (Minnesota or Wisconsin). Licensed in the additional state (Minnesota or Wisconsin) within 6 months from hire date
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified within 90 days from hire date. Immunization Delivery Certification completed within 1 year from hire date
