Job Description

The Director, People & Culture will be responsible for providing support, leadership and oversight of People & Culture activities for the Company’s Corporate teams, consisting of more than 400 employees worldwide. 

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the role will be based at our Headquarters located in Hudson Yards, NYC. Equinox currently has a hybrid work plan, with four days in office (Monday to Thursday).

The Director, People & Culture, Corporate, is a strategic business partner who helps our teams achieve their goals by being an advocate, change leader, and champion for inspiring achievement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies trends and provides guidance to management at all levels to mitigate employee relations issues and promote a positive work culture.  Assists the departmental teams in implementing action plans that improve employee engagement and drive the employee experience.
  • Supports talent management activities including talent assessment and succession planning.  Conducts formal talent conversations with dept heads on a quarterly basis.
  • Supports the annual performance review/feedback process to ensure continuous improvement and the implementation of best practices. Assists leaders with coaching, corrective actions, improvement plans, and goal setting as necessary.  
  • Partners with the Compensation team to provide appropriate guidance with respect to compensation recommendations and practices in-line with Company policy.
  • Partners with the Department heads and People & Culture teams to develop and maintain an organizational structure that drives the business and provides appropriate employee career paths and development opportunities for team members.
  • Conducts thorough investigations and develops solutions to complex employee issues and concerns. 
  • Serves as an approachable, highly trusted coach and adviser to management on all people related topics and issues.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition, Communications, Technology and dept leaders to provide a world-class onboarding experience for HQ teams.  Ensures a successful handoff from Talent Acquisition.
  • Oversees the Company’s employment sponsorship program in coordination with outside immigration counsel.  Ensures that the processing of required sponsorship visas is managed in a timely manner and with the highest levels of customer service.
  • Partners with People Services COEs to ensure successful execution and compliance with a wide range of employee initiatives and programs including recognition, benefits enrollment, leave of absence administration, etc.
  • Ensures leaders are aware of and adhere to P&C processes and makes recommendations to management team to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Partners with the Legal team to interpret and communicate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and Local employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Analyzes and interprets employee retention and other key P&C metrics and works with business partners to develop appropriate action plans to inform decisions and address identified needs.
  • Conducts exit interviews with all Director + level separations and other employees as requested/required.  Analyzes trends and reports findings as necessary.
  • Assesses regional needs and partners with the L&D department to identify and implement strategies relating to management and employee level development. Coordinates/conducts applicable training and development programs where necessary.
  • Maintains thorough and current knowledge of all Human Resources, employee regulations and Federal, State and local employment laws.
  • Provides inspiring leadership to the corporate People & Culture Business Partner.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual should meet the following minimum requirements.

  • 5+ years of Human Resources experience with an emphasis in employee relations/generalist HR.  Experience supporting a large corporate population preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipline.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, persuasion and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Established assessment and decision-making skills with proven ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience in dealing with complex employee relations issues (EEO, FLSA, etc.).  Ability to solve conflicts in a positive and fair manner. 
  • Excellent time management, organizational and follow-up skills.  Ability to set priorities and organize time. Demonstrates initiative and is able to work independently. 
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and personable.  Has ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with high standards. Willingness to travel to Park Avenue NYC office.

Pay Transparency: Min $140K - Max $160K
