Job Summary
Responsible for completeness of architectural changes that satisfy Product Management and/or NSE requirements. Manages relationships with department stakeholders. Monitors and manages key performance metrics. Fosters a culture of innovation, excellence & collaboration.

Responsibilities
Stakeholder Management

  • Works with stakeholders to review network improvement plans that are consistent and drive standardization across regions
  • Influences and collaborates with multiple stakeholders of multiple portfolio of projects to plan network release calendars
  • Ensures successful delivery of the portfolio on time and budget
  • Reviews and influences stakeholder communications with respect to portfolio status, and budget utilization
  • Performs vendor negotiations and manages the relationship to drive maximum value for Equinix

Management Reporting

  • Participates in monthly operational reviews of platform performance and roadmaps
  • Makes recommendations for improvement to Global Network Engineering and NSE teams

Network Optimization

  • Develops continuous feedback loop to ensure that laboratory and field issues are reviewed for architectural or process improvements
  • Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plans that are agreed upon by upper management
  • Works closely across GTS and Technical Project Managers to track resource allocation and utilization for portfolio projects
  • Works closely with Project Managers to track resource allocation and utilization for larger projects
  • Requests approvals for additional expenses outside of approved budget/headcount
  • Communicates budget estimates for cross functional projects/programs, and ensures teams execute assigned projects within approved budgets
  • Manages and/or escalates issues, as needed
  • Provides input to the annual budget planning process relating to project/support/SW maintenance/ Renewals/purchases/etc. for his/her areas of responsibility

Resource and Budget Management

  • Works closely across GTS and Technical Project Managers to track resource allocation and utilization for portfolio projects

System Optimization

  • Reviews and approves recommendations from Manager, to implement improvements
  • Manages implementation of approved system improvement recommendations

Project/Program Management

  • Responsible for reviewing and approving project plans, provided by Project Managers and technology professionals
  • Responsible for ensuring projects deliver on time and budget by holding contributors accountable for delivering on project milestones and deliverables
  • Responsible for escalating issues and potential roadblocks to management, including making recommendations to address and resolve
  • Expected to resolve most issues to closure
  • Responsible for identifying and mitigating project execution risks
  • Guide and /or revise project plan to ensure it completely captures all activities and eliminates duplicative efforts

R&D/Innovation

  • Drives innovation among the teams, recognizes innovation, and helps communicate new ideas across teams

Process/Policies/Standards

  • Defines and evangelizes processes, policies and standards across all stakeholders
  • Measures performance against process goals
  • Proactively seeks continuous improvement opportunities in process/policies/standards

Road Map/Planning

  • Responsible for leading strategic planning, influencing and driving prioritization of initiatives with functional stakeholders
  • Responsible for developing and communicating a roadmap of projects and initiatives to functional stakeholders

People Management

  • Provides leadership and direction to the team, through managers
  • Is accountable for the performance and results of direct reports and maybe a larger or multiple teams
  • Responsible for succession planning
  • Responsible for performance management of team members, including disciplinary actions and hire/fire decisions/ recommendations.
  • Responsible for the GPS process including assessments and Total Rewards allocations of direct reports and reviewing and approving manager recommendations
  • Responsible for talent development, including quarterly conversations, career pathways conversations and individual development/growth plans
  • Models the Equinix Culture and Values

Review/Approvals/Escalations/Issues Resolution

  • Monitors and manages support and operational metrics and trends for management areas. Identifies and prioritizes areas for optimization
  • Senior Manager responsible for identification of significantly impactful/high risk issues, appropriate prioritization, resource assignment and ownership, and overseeing process through closure of issue while ensuring appropriate escalation and visibility to senior management teams
  • Senior Manager oversees and supports RCA cycles, reviews management level reports related to issues and escalations
  • For more complex and higher risk issues, the manager will draft and support reviews Senior Leadership review cycles

Vendor Management

  • Manages/leads individual consultants or consulting teams, as assigned
  • Understands vendor roadmaps, manages relationships, feedback and escalations, negotiations and contract renewals
  • Reviews and proposes final vendor selections
  • Manages day-to-day vendor relationships and holds vendors accountable to their deliverables
  • Resolves vendor issues and escalates as needed

Country/Regional Management

  • Manages team of local technology professionals in a given country/region
  • Executes against approved initiatives
  • Manages technology and/or human resources in a single location, being familiar with local language, law and regulations, as needed
  • Partners with global technology owners and regional stakeholders, to implement and maintain global technology standards
  • Manages relationships with regional/functional stakeholders
  • Defines, presents and obtains leadership approval for local execution strategy, aligned to global standards

Qualifications

  • 15+ years experience
  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering or Related Field preferred

The United States targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

  • San Francisco, CA / Bay Area: $179,000 to $269,000 per year
  • California (Non-SF/Bay Area), Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Washington state: $171,000 to $257,000 per year
  • Colorado, Nevada, Rhode Island: $155,000 to $233,000 per year

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

This position may be offered in other locations. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
