Senior Data Center Critical Facilities Engineer

Job Summary
The Critical Facilities Senior Engineer / Specialist is responsible to support the engineering operations team and cross functional team to ensure full availability of critical power, cooling and fire systems for data center operation. The roles objectives include delivery of infrastructure upgrade projects, support of engineering operations teams in analysis of systems and troubleshooting / deep diving of issues for rectification. This role is expected to lead and guide engineers in both maintenance, corrective and project works and be strong technically across mechanical and electrical to assist in driving the reliability of infrastructure and expansion.

Responsibilities

Incident Management

  • Supports the on-site engineering team by providing technical insight, guidance and responds on site or remotely if required.
  • Develops processes and procedures to assist the on site engineering team in preparing and responding to incidents.
  • Ability to attend and support on site personnel in the event of emergencies / impacts to infrastructure.

Projects

  • Scopes the works, engages vendors and designers and delivers infrastructure projects across mechanical, electrical, fire systems and cooling for the sites. Projects could relate to sustainability, reliability, corrective works and expansion projects.
  • Leads other engineers on programs / projects to improves the sites. Sets up meetings to engage stakeholders and deliver on critical programs across the sites.
  • Responsible for the financial tracking, project management reporting of their projects.
  • Participates and leads sustainability initiatives across sites.

Facility/Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Performs site inspections and supports the on site engineering team to monitor the building and IBX alarms, flagging issues and supporting on site engineers with technical guidance and troubleshooting.
  • Performs electrical switching where required and some preventative maintenance on site infrastructure (e.g. maintenance of primary infrastructures), or manages vendors to deliver maintenance, supporting the on site engineers.
  • Undertakes repairs and corrective maintenance on infrastructure where required.


  • Guides other engineers on the operation of critical infrastructure.

Site Administration

  • Development of critical infrastructure MOPs/EOPs or support of on site engineers for development.
  • Engage in drills and support on site engineers in emergency preparedness.

Collaboration

  • Assists with asset end of life and planning for expansion
  • Effectively collaborates within the department and provides input to peers for general maintenance activities

Skills / Knowledge

  • Mechanical systems including generators, pumps, valves, cooling systems
  • Electrical systems including UPS, transformers, switchboards, PDPs
  • Program or project management on critical infrastructure
  • BMS and controls understanding / knowledge
  • Strong local vendor knowledge / experience in engaging with vendors, having works quoted, and delivered
  • Budget / cost management experience

Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in engineering in critical environments (data centres, marine, heavy industry)
  • Qualifications in electrical or mechanical engineering / trades
