Job Summary

Then read on about the role and requirements for an Equinix Critical Facilities Engineer at our Seattle location.

Data Centers are considered Critical Facilities. This means that we support hospitals, laboratories, public safety centers. Simply put - We cannot go dark. In this crucial role, a Critical Facilities Engineer:

Responsibilities

  • Maintain datacenter infrastructure systems in a mission-critical, high-risk and high-reliability environment using a variety of computer applications and information resources
  • Operate, maintain and coordinate repairs to critical and non-critical facility components including HVAC (heating, ventilation and cooling), electrical infrastructure, plumbing, uninterruptible power systems (UPS), fire control and suppression systems using documented procedures and change control system
  • Evaluate facility standards and practices to contribute and collaborate to achieve optimal and efficient operations for maintaining and monitoring facility systems with a continuous process-improvement mindset
  • Respond to emergency situations and incidents and ensure corrective measures are performed accurately and within service level agreement (SLA) requirements
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance work orders. Support auxiliary equipment and machines with troubleshooting and repairs to avoid/minimize downtime. Makes minor changes to mechanical, electrical and specialized systems, as directed
  • Monitor and resolve Building Monitoring System (BMS) alarm issues
  • Administer pre-approval process for vendors and visitors, complete briefings on safety and security protocols at the start of work, supervise vendors working on-site, and complete final review of work performed and associated documentation. Ensure vendor maintenance activities are carried out as per Equinix's standard operating procedures. Cooperate with vendors in modifying technical files and drawings so systems and equipment are kept current
  • Author and review documentation for accuracy including Method of Procedure (MOP), Emergency Operating Procedure (EOP), Energized Electrical work (EEW) permits, hot work permits, etc. Identify Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and make recommendations for improvement(s) or emergency response(s)
  • Complete routine work tickets for power circuit connections & disconnects, cage component modifications and installations, and perform and document daily and weekly inspection rounds of plant.
  • Operate and maintain equipment and power tools to safely perform assigned work
  • Collaborate within the entire Equinix Operations organization to troubleshoot and resolve moderate to difficult facility issues
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Demonstrated commercial or military experience troubleshooting, maintaining or installing HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, or comparable electro-mechanical systems. Prior experience maintaining large-scale UPS's a plus
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret electrical one-line diagrams
  • Adept at quickly learning new software and system apps. Prior experience with Maximo CMMS, Building Management Systems (BMS) and/or Coupa purchasing system considered a plus
  • Demonstrated strength and experience using MS Office apps (Word, Excel, Outlook) to author reports, procedures, data tables, work schedules, and produce concise business communications with precision, clarity and proper grammar
  • Experience working in a critical facility/mission critical or regulated environment requiring strict adherence to written procedures is strongly preferred
  • Perform all essential job functions, including walking, standing, bending, stooping, ladder work, lifting and manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic safe work practices and ability to complete safety and first-aid training as assigned and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to arc flash safety clothing and gear, hard hat, dust mask or respirator, eye protection, safety shoes etc.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds unaided and work on ladders and rooftops
  • Able and willing to work day/swing/night shifts including overtime as needed to support 24/7 operations via 8, 10 or 12-hour work shifts days, evenings or nights. While your schedule is subject to change at any time due to business needs, every possible effort is made to minimize and avoid sudden disruptions and ease into shift changes as they occur

The United States targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

  • California (Non-SF/Bay Area), Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Washington state: $67,000 to $101,000 per year

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

This position may be offered in other locations. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
