About the Job:
The RN Resource Nurse directly oversees and serves as an immediate, first-line clinical resource to staff in a practice department. The RN Resource Nurse demonstrates well-developed clinical competencies appropriate to the specialty area when providing direct patient care or guiding other staff. Functions as an integral member of the unit’s management team and works to ensure smooth real-time operations of the unit on assigned shift, adhering to values under the EHS Professional Practice Model, which guides all dimensions of practice.

What You’ll Do:
- Model skilled communication, true collaboration, effective decision-making, meaningful recognition, and authentic leadership, as described in Establishing and Sustaining Healthy Work Environments (AACN, 2005).
- Participate in professional enhancement activities; examples include membership in hospital- wide committees, health system initiatives, development of education materials, professional association activities.
- Provide leadership to the health care team in developing integrated approaches to care.
- Collaborate with and serve as a resource to medical staff for relevant clinical and other issues.
- Consult with and/or communicate questions and concerns to the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or Administrative Supervisor as appropriate in a timely manner.
- Assist staff with the provision of care to assigned patients; assumes a partial patient assignment.
- Provide oversight and ensure smooth shift-based operations including but not limited to completion of unit specific tasks, patient flow, interdisciplinary collaboration, patient satisfaction, issue resolution and occurrence reporting.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Manager to effectively control costs through innovative and economical utilization of personnel, materials and equipment and assists in the mentorship of staff as stewards of resources.
- Apply well developed critical thinking skills in guiding and assisting staff to identify and address clinical concerns to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Serve as a role model; coach and mentor other staff, promotes teamwork, and assesses performance, behavior, and attendance of staff on assigned shift and communicates information to Clinical Nurse Manager to facilitate effective and timely completion of performance reviews.
- Serve as the designated shift resource for assigned new graduate nurses during their first year of employment, beyond their precepted orientation period.
- In the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager, collaborate with Administrative Supervisor to address/stabilize management and operational issues requiring immediate attention, i.e., staffing and scheduling, disciplinary actions.
- Support the department’s Shared Governance structure and is accountable for quality improvement outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Who You Are:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. BSN required; OR must be actively enrolled in a BSN program. Termination of a program without degree completion will remove eligibility for the role.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire is required.
- Life support authorization (BLS, ACLS, etc.) appropriate to the patient population required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain ACLS and PALS certification within nine (9) months of hire is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of current cardiothoracic surgery practice experience
- Incumbent must be at a clinical level that reflects proficiency and in-depth knowledge of nursing practice.
