Eaton's CTO Corporate Technology Office division is currently seeking a Technology Manager, Eaton Research Labs. This role is based in Golden, CO.
The ERL is a corporate R&D function within Eaton's Chief Technology Office, responsible for innovative and breakthrough technology development and commercialization for Eaton products and service solutions.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $130500.0 - $191400.0 a year.

Job Summary:
The primary role of this position is to manage team of engineers and scientists specializing in Energy Transition and DC systems and lead number of relevant R&D efforts.
The technology manager will be responsible for managing a team of scientists and engineers specializing in Energy Transition and DC systems. The manager should stimulate the search for creative technology advances in the areas of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), electric vehicles (EVs), DC systems, data center, microgrids, and new AI/ML methods for grid-edge optimization and controls. Additionally, the successful candidate will lead 1-2 high visibility technical projects related to their areas on expertise.
The technology manager will be responsible for meeting the schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all research and development efforts under their control, as well as developing and managing customer relationships with Eaton business leaders and stakeholders and maintaining a sound business case for the project portfolio. The technology manager is also responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with the external technical community and academia as relevant for Eaton. Specifically, the candidate will provide leadership to the department in terms of guidance, coaching and development of the technical staff; selection and retention of employees; management of the project portfolio; and administrative leadership for the department.
Job Responsibilities:
In this role you will:
- Line management of engineers and scientists including hiring, goal setting, performance evaluations, talent development, and day-to-day operations.
- Responsible for relevant portfolio management for North America and technology execution for the portfolio. Coordinate with peer technology managers within the group and the Energy Systems vertical for alignment of the portfolios.
- Manage business unit relationships, maintaining customer satisfaction and manage the scope appropriately. Monitor and report overall performance of portfolio projects. Responsible for periodic Project Status Reports, Quarterly Reports and other reports using specified reporting processes.
- Develop strategies for technology roadmaps that are linked to and supportive of the overall ERL and business strategies.
- Identify new business opportunities relevant to technology roadmaps and lead realization of those opportunities to drive growth within Eaton.
- Serve as a subject matter expert externally and internally. This includes leadership/active participation in external industry and technical groups, mentoring junior level staff and consulting internal business and engineering partners.
- Implement state-of-the-art concepts and solutions into quick prototypes, feasibility studies, specifications, and eventually into larger systems and product components.
- Investigate, integrate, and validate new product designs abiding by time-based milestones. Engage multiple business stakeholders, cross-functional teams, National labs, universities, and utility customers.
- Innovate, invent, and challenge state-of-art design and process by securing critical intellectual properties through patents and disclosures.

Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical field from an accredited institution with minimum six (6) years of relevant industrial/entrepreneurial experience or, Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field from an accredited institution with minimum nine (9) years of relevant industrial/entrepreneurial experience.
- 3+ years of verifiable experience in leading technical projects as principal or co-principal investigator which includes leading technical team, managing technical deliverables, and project budget.
- Demonstrated strong experience in two or more of the following areas: DER management algorithm and software development, data center energy management, DC system controls and protection, AI/ML/data science-based energy management/controls, distributed controls, microgrids, and integration of DERs/EVs for grid services.
- No relocation is offered for this position. All candidates must currently reside within 50 miles of Golden, CO in order to be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a line manager leading and managing people.
- Experience in leading large project teams as principal investigator.
- Experience in program management, new technology development and innovation process.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple research areas.
- Experience in advanced data analytics and machine/reinforcement learning to address the emerging R&D challenges in modern power systems will be a plus.
