Specialist - Metallurgy

What you'll do:

This role is for a Specialist in Metallurgy focused on developing materials and manufacturing solutions for Eaton's product portfolio in Electrical domain. In this role, you will act as a Theme Leader for materials for electrification and will work across the organization to identify needs and opportunities for material and manufacturing technologies, develop roadmap for adoption and development of right solutions and lead the research efforts in the domain.

- The Specialist is expected to serve as a technical and/or project lead on projects within the Materials and Manufacturing team. They are responsible for meeting the project schedule, scope, cost and technical targets for all efforts under their control.

- Develop strong business relations across organization to understand critical business problems that require materials and manufacturing based solutions to enable Eaton in developing differentiated systems and products for the Electrical, E-mobility and More electrical aircraft domains.
- Build proposals with compelling business case and negotiate with Eaton businesses to secure funding.
- Use program management skills and practices to coordinate activities with other engineering resources, cross functional teams, external partners and ecosystem to ensure timely completion of the project milestones utilizing internal project execution processes, including Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews.
- Identify and / or develop materials for LV, MV and HV electrical products such as circuit breakers, transformers, fuses, switchgears, PDU's etc. for adoption of power efficient and lightweight material solutions
- Identify and / or develop materials for thermal management applications.
- Utilize inhouse capabilities and develop external ecosystem for developing unique alloys and composites providing competitive advantage to products and leading to IP generation.
- Work with Eaton business manufacturing and supply chain / category team to find opportunities for improvement in performance and cost of existing products.
- Develop the strategic technology adoption and development roadmap and link it with product roadmaps for various businesses
- Lead the research and development efforts to mature the TRL, MRL and CRL for new materials in expedited manner.
- Build network with universities around the world to accelerate low TRL technology development in metal alloys and composites aligning with Eaton strategy
- Take ownership for commercialization of ERL developed technologies
- Act as an SME for metals, alloys and composites for electrical and thermal application to provide materials related support for NPD / NPI activities for various businesses.

Other responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to research teams to develop / evaluate new materials. Ensure use of data driven approach with materials science principles to execute design of experiments and to develop quantitative and usable correlations.
- Ensure the technical rigor of the work undertaken in Eaton Research Labs in Metal alloys and composites domain.
- Work with technology managers to shape up the proposals for waterlining process
- Responsible for developing and securing funding for right research program portfolio in Metal alloys and composites domain
- Mentor the young engineers in the team for technology, program execution and leadership
- Represent ERL on various internal and external technical forums
- Actively contribute high quality IP that has business and technology importance.
- Actively participate and present in internal innovation and ideation events."

Qualifications:

Master's Degree (with 7-10 years) or Ph.D. (with 4 - 9 years) experience in Metallurgy

Skills:

"- Expertise in alloy development for ferrous and non ferrous metal alloys and composites used in electrical and thermal applications.
- Strong knowledge of Physical metallurgy, Mechanical metallurgy, Structure-Property correlations, advanced characterization including EBSD, WDS, XRD etc., Metallurgical manufacturing processes especially powder metallurgy etc.
- Experience with non-ferrous metals, alloys, composites used in electrical contacts, current carrying paths, heat sinks, cold plates etc.
- Possess strong business acumen and the ability to understand and formulate compelling value propositions and to understand and drive through value and adoption chain.
- Proven track record for IP generation and publications in reputed peer-reviewed journals is desired.
- Ability to apply Design for Six Sigma methodologies in the course of their work. Green belt certification in DFSS or DMAIC is highly desired. "
