This position is for a Specialist Mechanical Engineer role supporting new product development and existing product sustainment in Eaton's Mission Systems Division (MSD). The engineer will serve as an expert resource for other engineers in the domain of Space Life Support and Space Propulsion. The engineer will create their own strategy, direction, priorities, and will develop constructive solutions aligning to current business needs.

A successful candidate will need knowledge and have prior experience of Aerospace new product introduction methods, high-pressure pneumatic systems and components, an ability to effectively communicate and influence stakeholders, and experience of leading complex engineering project teams.

What you'll do:

Specialist Mechanical Engineers work in a dynamic, fast paced environment and are responsible for successful execution of research, design, development, testing and certification activities. Including:

• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to a team of Mechanical Engineers or a complex project team made up of multiple engineering disciplines.
• Draw on a defined technology or product area of expertise to be called upon as a consultant for complex assignments at the site or divisional level.
• Act as Design Review Chair in area of product expertise: review project deliverables to ensure accuracy and alignment with organizational objectives.
• Complete conceptual/clean sheet designs for more complex technical domains.
• Establish the criteria for identifying and quantifying risks. And the methods for assessing design trade-offs.
• Technical interface with the external customer including ability to determine customer wants and needs and translate them into verifiable engineering requirements.
• Present technical information, engineering strategy, tactical objectives, etc. to Eaton leadership.

Position Criteria

• Demonstrated technical leadership skills working with a cross-functional team.
• Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration with internal and external customers.
• High level of creativity with regards to conceptual design and technical problem solving.
• Ability to think and work at the detailed product level and also at a high level (strategically).
• Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD
• Demonstrated track record of successfully applying several or most of the following engineering principles:
- Aerospace new product introduction methods
- Failure investigations of complex technical products or systems
- Designing for high pressure pneumatics
- Pneumatic or hydraulic valve design
- Gas Regulator design
- Cryogenic valve design
- Designs incorporating pyrotechnic initiators
- Valve sealing technology
- Static and dynamic seal design
- Performance and durability of dynamic interfaces (fit, material selection, finishes)
- Kinematic sizing of mechanical linkages, sliders, cranks, etc.
- Oversite and comprehension of stress analysis (static, dynamic, fatigue, vibration, acceleration, etc.)
- Steady state performance modeling
- Dynamic performance modelling (mass spring systems, acceleration, etc.)
- Electro magnetics (solenoid valves, latch valves)
- Control Systems
- Thermodynamics
• Develop engineering standards and design guides to support continuous improvement of the relevant engineering domain.
• Promote the use of Design for Six Sigma principles.
• Work directly with internal and external customers, suppliers, project engineers, design engineers, test engineers, sustainment engineers, Centers of Excellence, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, program management, and other functions to develop systems and products.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 10 years of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience designing mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now or in the future.
• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

• Relocation is not provided - candidates must reside within a 50 mile radius of the Eaton Orchard Park, NY facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 10 years of technical leadership experience in an aerospace organization.
• Design for Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt

• Experience designing Aerospace systems/products
