Senior Sustaining Product Engineer

Eaton's IS AER FMC division is currently seeking a Senior Sustaining Product Engineer. This position will be a part of Eaton's Aerospace group, specifically supporting the Irvine California facility. This facility has roughly 200 employees, with output in excess of $100M annually.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $95737.5 - $140415.0 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What You'll Do:

The Senior Sustaining Product Engineer will be responsible for resolving production product design problems and field return design problems on sustaining (current production) fuel component designs. Typical products include Refuel/Defuel Valves, Level Control Valves, Check Valves, Motor Operated Shutoff Valves, Solenoid Valves, Fuel Quantity, Check Valves, Solenoid Valves, Float Vent Valves, and Ejector (Jet) Pumps. These components are used in military and commercial aerospace applications. Additional tasks include implementing design changes for cost-out, reliability, and quality improvements of Eaton's Airframe and Ground Fueling products. The candidate will also provide technical support to operations personnel, the new product development team, the procurement group, and customers as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives for product improvement and cost efficiency through comprehensive engineering analysis, redesign, and validation processes.
  • Collaborate with customer service teams to address product-related inquiries, interpret both internal and external specifications, and provide recommendations for continued use or enhancement based on detailed engineering assessments.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to conduct formal root cause analyses and corrective actions addressing design challenges in Airframe and Ground Fueling products, both in production and fielded environments.
  • Maintain product viability by proactively assessing and redesigning hardware containing obsolete components.
  • Deliver prompt and economical responses to technical queries from customers and end users regarding products in service, including thorough investigations to determine the root cause of reported issues in fielded products.
  • Execute Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) activities to support site profit plan objectives.
  • Develop detailed test plans, specifications, and procedures for product requalification; oversee testing activities, provide guidance to test personnel, evaluate outcomes, and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Contribute to Eaton MESH safety initiatives associated with product design and manufacturability.
  • Provide operational support at daily Tier meetings and as directed by Engineering Management, ensuring non-conforming hardware is addressed promptly without compromising product quality or causing potential field operational deficiencies.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in the aerospace industry
  • This position requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158
  • Authorized to work in the United States, now and in the future
  • Must reside within a 50 mile radius of Irvine, CA. Active Duty military are exempt from the geographical requirement

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Five (5) years of engineering experience in the aerospace industry
  • Exposure to materials and processes used in aerospace settings
  • Awareness of FAA regulations related to part certification and repair station procedures
  • Working knowledge of solenoids, mechanical and proximity switches, and hydraulically actuated valves

Position Criteria:

  • Familiarity with Catia, ProE, or comparable 3D design software
  • Understanding of basic materials and metal processes
  • Experience using structured problem-solving approaches
  • Practical experience with mechanical component and system design or construction
  • Ability to organize and lead cross-functional teams
  • Oral and written communication proficiency, including presenting to internal and external groups
  • Willingness to pursue ongoing learning and improvement
  • Interest in mentoring and sharing best practices
  • Experience managing and delivering projects on schedule
  • Motivation to achieve objectives
