Senior Design Engineer

Eaton's ES AMER PCS BUL division is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer.

This professional level position independently applies engineering techniques using judgment in designing new electrical circuit protection products and making modifications to current product offerings. This position will work as part of an engineering team, and collaborate with sales, marketing, supply chain, quality, manufacturing, and operations to develop robust products which support Eaton's Bussmann Business strategic growth plans.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $80250.03 - $117700.04 a year.

What you'll do:

  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to complete new product and/or cost reduction projects.
  • Translates customer wants/needs into feasible product design concepts, collaborating with the marketing, manufacturing, sales, and quality teams to develop, validate and launch products into the market.
  • Plans and drives projects to conclusion meeting performance and cost objectives in a timely fashion, preparing print, specification, and analysis packages for final approval by group supervisor.
  • Selects materials and manufacturing processes for new products, working with sourcing, quality, suppliers, and manufacturing team to ensure new products can be economically manufactured, while supporting product goal alignment with Eaton's operational priorities of safety, quality, delivery, cost and inventory.
  • Establishes and coordinates the planning and execution of test sequences to verify and validate designs and processes for the product.
  • Coordinates with laboratory and plant production team to create product prototypes required for customer evaluations and product verification testing.
  • Utilizes quality management system and six sigma tools, such as failure mode and effects analysis, control plans, design of experiments, and statistical analysis in developing robust design solutions.
  • Provides product line support for existing product offering, ranging from answering technical questions to developing solutions to product performance or quality issues.
  • Employs rigorous problem solving techniques, determining root cause and developing appropriate permanent corrective actions to develop and improve design solutions.
  • Occasionally, provides direction and training for other engineers and technicians.
  • Reports and presents project progress throughout the lifecycle of the project to all levels of the organization

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in product development of electric/mechanical assemblies
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, now or in the future without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree focused in Mechanical or electrical engineering strongly preferred
  • Knowledge in product development of electric/mechanical assemblies in a rigorous engineering environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Medium Voltage products and systems
  • Knowledge in the design of components with varied manufacturing processes including: injection molding, stamping, machining and high volume assembly processes is desirable.
  • Experience working within quality management systems.
  • Experience in testing techniques.
  • Knowledge of power test equipment and measurement instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of electrical circuit protection products, electrical distribution systems, and applicable industry standards is desirable.
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, 3D CAD modeling tools, and Minitab.

Skills:

  • Ability to effectively motivate team members that are not direct reports
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
