Product Line Support Engineering Manager

Eaton's ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Product Line Support Engineering Manager. This role takes place at our facility in Sumter, SC. We are able to offer international relocation assistance and sponsorship for qualified candidates.

As the Product Line Support Engineer Manager you will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of standardized product designs and assembly processes. This manager provides technical expertise, resolves design-related issues, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reliability, and cost-efficiency. This role is executed by managing documentation, supporting cross-functional teams, and facilitating training, to ensure seamless integration of standardized products into production.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $123750.0 - $181500.0 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

What you'll do:

  • Drive business objectives / improvements impacting product line-wide measures.
  • Identifies opportunities that enhance business performance through CI activities.
  • Conduct bi-annual competitor analysis comparison of product features and capabilities.
  • Monitor and analyze product warranty and service history trends. Conduct root cause analysis on systemic issues.
  • Build/own Product Line Engineering processes for activities such as, change requests, design deviations, engineering test plans, test history, training, and design guides.
  • Product line support for vendors, customers, sales, and manufacturing.
  • Manage communications with satellites, main plants, AE's, and product management.
  • Take ownership of engineering projects post-Gate 5.
  • Provide requirements for NPI projects to pass each Gate review.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in design and manufacturing processes.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with power distribution equipment.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a manager of people.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification for Design for Six Sigma
  • At least 2 years of experience designing products under UL 50, UL 67, and UL 891 standards

Additional Information:

  • Investigate and evaluate opportunities for product improvement and cost out.
  • Ensure compliance with all codes and standards working with these agencies.
  • Provide technical support for our standard offerings to the manufacturing teams at all 19 facilities.
  • Provide technical support for our standard offerings to the Customer Order Engineering teams.
  • Ensure smooth launch of new designs and product changes to all plants involved with the product line and monitoring of standards among all plants.
  • Conduct bi-annual competitive product analysis.
  • Train product line engineers, drafters, and technicians on new product designs and processes.
  • Provide guidance and work with manufacturing engineers/custom order engineers during product development and improvements.
  • Maintain drawings, product structure, and design standards in accordance with modern methods and procedures.
  • Take necessary measures to improve the quality of product and information in the respective area of responsibility.
  • Ensure product documentation is standardized.
  • Ensure product test data is stored in a common location and indexed in a single table.
  • Responsible for design approval and documentation completeness during program gate reviews.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement activities throughout the engineering team.
  • Own the engineering change request backlog.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge/understanding of manufacturing processes.

Skills:

  • Product Life-cycle management systems and their structure.
  • Predictive analysis such as CFD (thermal flow), FEA (stress analysis), and electro-magnetic.
  • Fabrication methods for sheet metal, plastic, copper, and aluminum.
  • Proper bus joint design.
