Eaton's Power Components Division is currently seeking a Metallurgy Engineer.

This role is based out of Horseheads, NY. Relocation assistance will be provided.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $77,249 - $113,299 a year.

This role will coordinate and implement engineering programs related to the development of new equipment designs, manufacturing methods and advanced application concepts. The primary area of responsibility will be the powder metallurgy parts manufacturing department.

What you'll do:

  • Must perform the duties and responsibilities of the manufacturing engineer level.
  • Conceive, develop, and implement new manufacturing engineering theories and concepts. Evaluate technical proposals and the results of analytical, experimental or design studies. Has responsibility for creative engineering, design evaluation and research development projects.
  • Formulate technical proposals on development of new designs and/or advanced manufacturing processes, directed by and within the limits of plant objectives and long-range goals. Present proposals to management and include basic design theory, cost estimates, feasibility studies and other pertinent data.
  • Provide technical leadership with full realization of its commercial implication and assume coordination responsibilities for assigned engineering projects or programs. Initiate solutions to program or project engineering and research problems of unusual magnitude and scope which generally include aspects of more than one technological area.
  • Provide complete program leadership for the industrialization of new manufacturing processes, either in house or at approved subcontractor locations.
  • Keeps informed of engineering progress in the field, the patent situation and development of competitors. Gather and evaluate information on the latest developments of all competitors within assigned area of responsibility. Analyze and interpret this data as related to plant objectives and planning and make recommendations as required.
  • Benchmark other Eaton or external plants to incorporate best practices to continually improve manufacturing processes.
  • Must be capable to represent Eaton Electrical on product litigation.
  • Address unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and hazards in your respective work area(s) and evaluate ensuing corrections.
  • Support all EHS functions, including MESH and ISO14001.
  • Support deployment of the Eaton Quality System and Eaton Lean Six Sigma.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering OR Bachelor's Degree in a Science field WITH at least one year shop floor experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering
  • Five (5) years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with powder metal manufacturing and/or electrical contact manufacturing
  • Experience working in a union environment

Skills:

  • The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to function with broad autonomy in all facets of his/her work. Using the overall plant business objectives, the employee must identify specific goals, targets, technologies, equipment, or processes to achieve department objectives. Work is reviewed infrequently as required. Typically, critical decisions only would require the review of the manager.
  • Must have demonstrated unusual originality in the utilization of new processing methods or equipment, and incorporate them into useful designs or technical problem solutions.
  • Expertise is also required in the area of manufacturing processing methods, assembly and testing techniques, quality and SPC methods.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of the properties, processing requirements, and applications of powder metal materials.
  • Must be highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite programs, particularly Excel and Access, and statistical measurement tools.
  • The incumbent in this position is expected to provide substantial direction to less experienced personnel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The most complex problems encountered in achieving the position's primary function:
  • Coordinate and lead new manufacturing process development programs with minimal supervision.
  • Must be capable of solving field failure analysis.
  • Solve technical and scheduling problems with R&D programs or equipment manufacturers.
  • Development and implementation of improved manufacturing processes (in house or subcontracted).
  • Implementation of the Eaton Lean Six Sigma System - 9 tools in area of responsibility.
  • Implementation of MESH in area of responsibility.
  • Direction and supervision of the hourly workforce in area of responsibility (as back up to the department supervisor)
