What you'll do:

Eaton is seeking a lead Power Electronics (PE) engineer for its Power Electronics and Battery (PE-Bat) Center of Excellence (CoE).

Eaton's PE CoE accelerates the company's growth through the development of power electronics technology platforms and common hardware building blocks that are scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable, as well as standardized design methodologies that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provide a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products.

This individual will be a member of the PE-Bat CoE and play a key role in driving the development of technology platforms, common building blocks, and design methodologies to be leveraged by multiple business units.
• Performs design, modeling, simulation, and implementation of power electronics circuits for power conversion and protection
• Develops control and protection algorithms for electric motors and power converters
• Builds and measures test circuits. Analyzes data to improve/optimize the designs.
• Evaluates the designs to meet requirements factoring in performance, cost, size, reliability, and manufacturability
• Collaborates with mechanical, thermal, firmware, and testing engineers to successfully develop and validate the designs
• Initiates and leads design reviews and technical discussions, including brainstorming
• Creates technical reports and presentations

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years of related engineering experience in power electronics designs and product development
  • Significant modeling, simulation, and analysis experience with tools such as Matlab/Simulink, SPICE, and PLECS
  • Significant hands-on experience with power electronics development and testing, especially for medium voltage (MV) applications
  • Broad knowledge of power electronics, including various topologies, power semiconductors, and control schemes.
  • Customer-focused with good relationship-building skills
  • Ability to learn new skills, technical knowledge, products, or industry
  • Strong written communication and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong knowledge of power semiconductors, power electronics passive components (e.g., high-frequency magnetics, power capacitors, etc.), state-of-the-art cooling techniques
• Experience with modern converter topologies, specifically medium voltage (MV) multi-level converter topologies
• Thorough understanding of PCB layout and EMC/EMI design practices, voltage clearance/creepage requirements, insulation, and interconnection techniques
• Experience with EMI/EMC development, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in designing electronics with thermal and reliability considerations (e.g., electronic simulation for DfR and DfM or worst-case analysis)
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes
• Design for Six Sigma certification
• Good English written and oral ability
• Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual.
• Good communication and presentation skills
• Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented, global, and diverse environment.
• Consistently acts in an ethical, open, honest, trustworthy, and truthful manner.

• Position requires up to 10% travel domestically and internationally.
