Lead Mechanical Engineer
Eaton's AER MSD Mission System Division division is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer. This role is based in Davenport, IA. Relocation assistance will be provided within the hiring country.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $93750.03 - $137500.04 a year.

What you'll do:
Primary Function:
The Air to Air (AAR) Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the creative design and development of Aerial / Air-to-Air refueling products. This position will contribute to the overall design of the product with involvement from project initiation thru manufacturing launch, plus ongoing developments and support. Functional responsibility includes analysis and refinement of product requirements, development of design solutions that meet requirements, testing and certification of the components plus systems as well as product qualification for performance, reliability, DFMA, and cost optimization of the final product. Design for X (DfX) experience and application in design efforts is an expectation. This position will work closely with the Engineering Manager, Program Manager, Subject Matter Experts, Chief Engineers, other Mechanical Engineers and System Architects, Electrical/Software Engineers, Product Line Manager, and Operations team members, Sourcing and Manufacturing personnel to develop the products in an organized and expedient fashion.
Essential Functions:
- Provide technical leadership for systems and sub-system developments in compliance with Eaton approved engineering processes, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
- Experience with application of aerospace design processes and leading technical teams in the delivery of gated-process design reviews.
- Work with product development stakeholders to ensure product meets technical, business, process, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and execute product design activities in accordance with project scope, cost, and schedule constraints and understand the business impact of different programmatic solutions and design choices.
- Review project related documentation such as analysis or test results created by peers to ensure their completeness and quality.
- Analyze and document multi-disciplinary requirements including, but not limited to: mechanical, electro-mechanical, software, reliability, maintainability, and safety.
- Technical interface with the external customer including ability to determine customer wants and needs and translate them into verifiable engineering requirements.
- Work directly as technical interface with internal and external customers, suppliers, project engineers, design engineers, test engineers, sustainment engineers, Centers of Excellence, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, program management, and other functions to develop systems and products.
- Performs a primary role in risk & opportunity identification and mitigation/capture on new design and product improvement projects.
- Mentor less experienced engineering resources to improve their product knowledge and general engineering expertise.
- Support site and project planning, rollout, and compliance with Model Based Engineering (MBE) and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) requirements.
- Execute, support, and oversee engineering changes for production, manufacturing, and customer field issues.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum 5 years of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem resolution experience.

Preferred qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university
- 7 years of experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, and/or Systems Engineering
- 5 years of experience as a leader of product development efforts with requirements development, validation, and verification, direct customer engagement, technical solutions development, systems documentation, and root cause problem solving.
- Design for Six Sigma or Six-Sigma (DMAIC) Greenbelt or Blackbelt.
- Intermediate CREO Design Software Experience and release of designs into configuration management system(s).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities in a rapidly changing environment.

- Strong communication skills with emphasis on technical writing and presentation.
- Leadership skills with strong customer presence.
- Demonstrable (tangible) Engineering education, training, or experience; Model Based Systems Engineering experience is a strong plus.
- Experience with CREO or other parametric CAD tools.
- Experience with requirements management using DOORS or similar.
- Working knowledge of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) principles.
