Lead Engineer - Embedded Firmware
What you'll do:
Eaton India Innovation Center (EIIC), Pune is seeking a Lead Firmware Engineer to design, develop and maintain firmware of circuit breaker trip unit, sensing hardware and meters. Responsibilities include new product development, supporting the resolution of field / production issues, feature / performance enhancements to improve existing products, validating changes in design or manufacturing and addressing application issues.
The Lead Firmware Engineer will be a key contributor in understanding product requirements, design and develop code, module level and system level embedded software design/coding, validation using programming languages like Assembly, C & C++ on embedded systems running on RTOS platforms. The lead engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, innovative, and compliant solutions. The position also involves mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical reviews and process improvements."
Key Responsibilities:
• Engages in design, development and testing of electrical protection devices using programming languages like Assembly, C & C++ on embedded systems running on RTOS platforms.
• Handles build management, change management, and configuration management tools like JIRA/bamboo/TFS/VS/GIT/Stash/Clear Case/Clear Quest/DOORS etc.
• Suggests and develops re-usable components and looks for continuous improvement opportunities in industrial control & protection products. Share knowledge within the team and demonstrates flexibility working in parallel on multiple assignments/product categories.
• Physical (Memory, processor utilization) optimization experience in resource constrained systems.
• Develops an understanding of both technology and product concepts and is able to articulate product and software design. Ensures quality of delivery in accordance with the plan adhering to the standard practices used in agile/waterfall model.
• Leads and participates in project-wide reviews of requirements, system architecture, and detailed design documents; interacts with Management, Architects, and other Leads.

• Communicates technical concepts and information to internal staff/peers and stakeholders; strong verbal, documentation, and interpersonal communication skills required.
• Identifies opportunities for process, tools, and technology improvements, and drives those from concept to implementation.
• Generate ideas and innovative solutions which will provide competitive edge to business products.
• Think creatively and come out with new proposals and present them to stakeholders.
• Develop design guidelines, best practices and lessons learnt documents and shares with peers and team.
• Estimate work load, establish and maintain project schedules and monitor progress through the project execution phases
• Contribute to team's technical growth by engaging in technical discussion and mentoring
• Active communication with the cross functional team to ensure schedule, cost and performance alignment
Qualifications:
- B.E. / M.E / Mtech Electronics / E&TC
- 9+ years of hands-on expertise in RTOS based firmware applications on microcontrollers/microprocessors
Skills:
• Experience in development of communication protocols like RS232, SPI, I2C, Modbus, CAN, and Ethernet etc
• Experience in sensor interfacing and analytics in control applications will be added advantage
• Experience of industrial communication protocols BACNet, Modbus,TCP/IP, http, Modbus -TCP, DNP, BACNetIP, websockets etc. Hands on in developing quality software applications.
• Operating system/RTOS concept, multithreading and IPC concepts, sound knowledge and experience of developing Linux shell scripting, Makefiles and application programming.
• Extensive experience of using Embedded C/C++ in products.
• Sound understanding of Operating Systems, Data Structures, Algorithms, Object Oriented Programming and Design Patterns
• Experience with 2 to 3 product launches as technical leader
