Lead Application Engineer (Utilities)

Job Summary
The Application Engineer - Central America & Caribbean is a senior technical subject matter expert responsible for supporting commercial growth while actively shaping the technical and regulatory landscape of the region. In addition to translating customer specifications and system requirements into competitive technical solutions, this role plays a critical part in the development, promotion, and adoption of Codes & Standards in collaboration with government entities, regulatory bodies, utilities, and industry associations, addressing the current lack or inconsistency of regulations across the region.
The Application Engineer partners closely with sales, marketing, engineering, pricing, and execution teams to ensure technical accuracy, value-based differentiation, and long-term market sustainability. Success is measured not only by enabling sales effectiveness and defending technical positioning, but also by influencing specifications, improving regulatory frameworks, and elevating technical credibility with key stakeholders throughout Central America and the Caribbean.
The Application Engineer is responsible for achieving acceptance of Eaton Electrical distribution and control products into the Electrical Consults in Central America and Caribbean through engineering value propositions for projects, high level of product application advice that give a competitive advantage to Eaton.
Getting early projects information and canalized that information through the proper internal channel for costumer support, assistance and influence creating a team work scheme with sales Engineer and managers.
Problem solving, engineering skills, in-depth product and application expertise, and exceptional communication skills are essential to the success of this position. The successful candidate must possess a good understanding of selling techniques, Eaton's capabilities, market channels, and technical applications of Eaton products.
Must possess a strong work ethics, communication skills, competitiveness and willingness to learn, and be adept at building relationships.
Job Responsibilities
A. Provide advanced technical expertise on products, systems, and applications throughout pre-sales, design, and specification phases.
B. Translate customer specifications, standards, and designs into compliant, competitive, and regionally appropriate technical solutions.
C. Act as a technical liaison between sales, engineering, pricing, and execution teams to ensure alignment, feasibility, and execution readiness.
D. Lead and support Codes & Standards development initiatives by engaging with local governments, regulatory agencies, utilities, and industry bodies to help establish or modernize electrical and safety regulations.
E. Influence consulting engineers, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and key customers through value-based engineering, best practices, and standards-aligned solutions.
F. Represent the company in technical committees, standards forums, and industry events across Central America and the Caribbean.
G. Deliver technical presentations, solution reviews, and product application guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
H. Provide mentoring and technical leadership to sales engineers and junior application engineers as required by seniority.
I. Monitor competitive technologies, evolving codes, and regional regulatory trends to protect and advance long-term technical positioning.
Qualifications:
Education Level Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline. (Engineering only).
Years and Area of Experience Required
Five to seven years of experience in one or more of the following:
Construction or Industrial Sales,
Product Line Engineering,
Manufacturing,
or other related Electrical Industry experience, including construction knowledge.
Experience in electrical consulting or electrical design is also acceptable.
Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and certification processes, including experience working with authorities or standards bodies.
Technical Knowledge Required
Ability to deliver technical proposal presentations to customers and consulting engineers.
Skilled in the use of tools and applications commonly used by Project Engineers.
Strong product and application knowledge of engineered-to-order (ETO) assemblies.
English is a must (B2+ required)
Proficiency with: Bid Manager, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD/Revit.
Broad and deep knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards.
Desirable
Proven experience in application engineering, systems engineering, or technical sales support, preferably in emerging or developing regulatory environments.
