Position Overview:

This position in our organization reports directly to the Industrial Designer Manager. As an Industrial Design Intern, you will support the innovation process on tasks including player research, product and packaging design, rapid prototyping, and branding. This work will influence development on new products sold under the Golf Pride brand; through our OEMs such as Callaway, TaylorMade, and PING; as well as limited edition launches and external brand collaborations. This role will be a core member of the team, operating independantly as capable, while also receiving mentorship from and exposure to the entirety of the new product development process.

This position will work in close partnership with functions throughout the business including other designers and engineers, our in-house prototyping team, our global manufacturing team, as well as marketing and sales.

Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
• Lead front-end product design efforts using traditional industrial design methods to identify problems, create solutions and work with development partner teams.
• (identify problems) Support design research and participate in player research and testing.
• (identify problems) Plan and facilitate design thinking workshops across the organization.
• (create solutions) Develop concept designs as part of a cross-functional team, including designers, agency partners, engineers, product managers, marketing, and sales.
• (create solutions) Work with the design and marketing team to evolve the VBL and Golf Pride brand
• (create solutions) Collaborate with engineering and prototyping teams to turn 2D concept designs into 3D products.
• (create solutions) Build compelling presentations to communicate design to peers, leadership, and users.
• (development partners) Communicate with our product design and global manufacturing teams to balance design intent with manufacturability

Qualifications:

Education level required

  • BS/BA Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent is required

Years and area of experience required

Basic Qualifications:
• 1+ year(s) of product development experience + collaborative problem solving
• Strong visual communication skills, both physical and digital
• Ability to work on multiple development programs
• Design Portfolio is required

Preferred Qualifications:
• 1+ year(s) of product development experience + collaborative problem solving
• Experience creating image boards and engaging presentations
• Strong visual communication skills, both physical and digital
• Experience creating textures and patterns in Adobe Illustrator
• Basic proficiency with CAD - SolidWorks or Rhino
• Proficient with Keyshot 3D rendering
• Exposure to rapid prototyping (paper models, 3D printing, laser cutting)
• Exposure to DFM, delivering products through production
• Ability to work on multiple development programs simultaniously.

Technical knowledge
• Adobe CC products - Photoshop and Illustrator
• Microsoft Office products - PowerPoint and Excel
• CAD - SolidWorks or Rhino
• 3D Rendering - Keyshot"

Skills:

Soft Skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Ability to adapt to new challenges, growing and flexing their skillset
• Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to support presentations to clients
• Knowledge consumer product trends, ideally in the sporting goods industry
• Passion for sports (golf is a plus, but not a requirement)
