Embedded Platform IoT Architect

Eaton's ES AMER DIG division is currently seeking a Embedded Platform IoT Architect. This position can be located at any of the following Eaton locations: Raleigh NC, Pittsburgh PA (Moon Twp.) or Menomonee Falls WI. This position offers a HYBRID work schedule.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $112500.0 - $165000.0 a year.

What you'll do:

As an Embedded Platform IoT Architect, you will design and develop an IoT connectivity codebase that will be reused in a diverse portfolio of projects at Eaton. This portfolio of projects will include devices running on RTOS and Linux platforms. The ideal candidate has experience working with connecting embedded products to a cloud platform such as Azure or AWS, experience with device lifecycle management, and experience with revenue-generating features. Collaboration across teams and gaining alignment on solutions will be crucial to success.

In this role you will:

• Lead architecture, design and implementation of Internet of Things components within embedded RTOS and Linux products and platforms.
• IoT Fundamentals with cloud connectivity (for example Azure IoT), DLM, gateways, connectivity scalability and reliability
• Plan software architecture, network interfaces, and protocols to enable requirements, provide visual diagrams, author Epics and create the Definition of Done as teams progress toward new architectures
• Clearly and effectively communicate the rationale for the decisions to leadership who may not possess deep technical understanding of software and/or cloud architectures and processes as well as technical audiences through flowcharts, diagrams, code comments, and code snippets.
• Author high-quality, highly-performance, unit-tested code in C/C++ or other appropriate high level languages
• Demonstrate a fluency of and bias toward open source software and have a firm understanding of best practices around integrating open source software into commercial products.
• Contribute to technology road-mapping and capacity planning activities as well as evaluate business requirements to create high quality products in collaboration with product teams, stakeholders, engineering, and test
• Domestic and international leadership on projects is required and will necessitate meetings with global teams across time zones
• Maintain skills through the investigation of new technologies, software development techniques, and programming trends.
• Leverage best-in-class software development tools to enable scalable global development
• Provide accurate work estimates, develop and execute agile work plans for iterative and incremental project delivery, supporting annual budgeting & forecasting efforts
• Mentor fellow team members on new technologies, architecture principles, and good coding practices.
• Develop reports and metrics around the successful execution of your role & responsibilities

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering or related from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience working in embedded systems or embedded software development
• 7+ years' experience developing in an RTOS and/or embedded Linux environment
• 7 years experience with cloud connectivity or IoT enabled features
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and concepts
• Experience adopting or contributing to Open Source Software projects
• Experience leading technical resources
• All candidates being considered must currently reside within a 50-mile radius of the following Eaton locations: Raleigh NC, Pittsburgh PA (Moon Twp) or Menomonee Falls WI. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Computer Science
• 5+ years experience using C++
• Solid understanding of cybersecurity and/or cryptography
• Development of platform software utilizing open source frameworks (e.g. EdgeX, Fledge, Legato)
• Development of platform software utilizing open-source RTOS (e.g. FreeRTOS, Zephyr RTOS)
• Expert knowledge of RTOS and Linux operating systems and associated development platforms
• Demonstrated competency using or designing systems communicating with industrial networking protocols (e.g. HTTP, TCP/IP, MQTT, Modbus, BACnet, CAN)
• Strong understanding of Object Oriented Design (OOD) principles using C++
• Working knowledge of one other programming language (Go, Java, C#, C++, Python, etc.)
• Model designs using UML or similar methodologies as appropriate; develop use cases to model real-time systems behavior
• Ability to work effectively in an Agile Scrum (or other iterative development) environment
• Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and a good familiarity with unit test frameworks (e.g. GoogleTest, GoogleMock, xUnit++, etc.)
• Experience with multi-core embedded systems
• Experience using SDLC management tools in a team environment (e.g. Jira, Git, etc.)
• Solid understanding of software design principles, algorithms, data structures, and multithreading concepts
