Embedded Firmware Engineering Specialist
Eaton is seeking an Embedded Firmware Engineering Specialist to develop and design embedded firmware for electronics used in low voltage and medium voltage circuit breakers and switching products for the Protection, Control and Solutions business. The role will be located in Moon Township, PA. Relocation assistance within the US is available.
Reporting to the Director, you will be part of the Advanced Technology team and have the opportunity to develop, design and improve trip and control units and their capabilities for future circuit protection products. You will work with a team of dedicated engineers and experience the excitement of bringing new products to life from design concept through to production launch.
The primary function is to lead the design and development of embedded firmware leveraging MBD (Model Based Design) and HIL (Hardware in the Loop) for power electronics-based circuit protection and switching products. This includes creating functionality related to hardware drivers, protection, metering, communication, and user interface.
In this role you will:
- Be a technical lead in embedded firmware development for power electronic based circuit breakers
- Develop product technical requirements by working together with marketing and application teams
- Perform embedded design and testing tasks for firmware development
- Develop control and electrical fault management algorithm and firmware using HIL
- Plans work in detail at individual level as well as a technical lead, creating a robust and trackable plan, coordinated with the larger development team, including requirement definition and issue tracking
- Review own work and others work in formal design and quality reviews
- Tests own work or work of others, meeting quality and reliability goals
- Develops a high level of technical expertise in embedded software design
- Performs and contributes to technical research and investigations
- Collaborates with teams from ERL, Electrical Sector Center of Excellence, and external technology resources (National Labs and Universities) for technology and product innovation
- Follow Prelaunch and PROLaunch phase-gate new product development processes
- Generates value added intellectual property

Basic Qualifications:
• BS in Engineering field, prefer Electrical or Computer Engineering
• Minimum 10 years' experience developing embedded firmware/software for electronic devices

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with embedded firmware in 8 bits through 32 bit microcontrollers (e.g. ARM Cortex, PIC)
• Experience with Real-time Operating systems
• General knowledge of industrial circuit breaker design, requirements, and applications
• Experienced in code sharing tools and multi-person development
• Knowledge of and experience with project tracking tools such as Jira and JAMA
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
Position Criteria/Skills:
• Proficient in C
• Experience with C++
• Experience in using defect tracking systems and code repository
• Experience in developing device drivers and hardware bring up
• Experience in implementing wired communication protocols
• Experience with wireless communications systems, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and CAN
• Ability to read schematics
• Enjoys hands on work and has experience with lab equipment and safety
• Experienced in code sharing tools and multi-person development

The expected annual salary range for this role is $115499.97 - $169399.96 a year. This role is also eligible for a variable incentive program.
