Eaton's Legal Department is hiring a Counsel, Environmental & Sustainability in Beachwood, Ohio (though remote work can be considered).

What you'll do:

As Environmental & Sustainability Counsel, you will join a fast-paced and collaborative team leading the most important EHS & Sustainability issues faced by companies and communities today, working directly with our businesses and the Company's Chief Sustainability Officer to drive Eaton's continued growth and vision of improving the quality of life and the environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on domestic and international EHS regulations (air, water, waste, GHG, product stewardship).
  • Support litigation, enforcement actions, and regulatory negotiations.
  • Contribute to Eaton's 2030 Sustainability Goals and external reporting.
  • Provide legal support for M&A and real estate transactions with respect to EHS/sustainability, including due diligence and contract negotiation.
  • Develop and deliver EHS/sustainability training and compliance programs, along with day-to-day operational support.

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong background in environmental law and sustainability.
  • Experience with regulatory agencies, litigation, and corporate transactions.
  • Real estate legal experience is a plus.

Qualifications:

Education and Critical Soft Skills:

  • The selected candidate must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution with the necessary licensing to practice law.
  • He/she should have a minimum of 5 years (post JD) of experience working in EHS, product stewardship & sustainability, and dispute management.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • The successful candidate must be able to "see beyond" the EHS/sustainability practice area to integrate other considerations into holistic solutions for the Company, including effective collaboration with other functions and stakeholders.
  • The selected candidate should possess a continued curiosity and a desire to learn within and outside of the EHS/sustainability area.
  • They will be an effective communicator, negotiator and problem solver who is proactive, thinks and acts strategically, drives for world-class results, embraces accountability, and demonstrates managerial courage, strong interpersonal skills and professional presence.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $158249.97 - $232099.96 a year. This role is also eligible for a variable incentive program.
