Chief Engineer - Mission Systems Division

Eaton Aerospace Group Mission Systems Division (MSD) has an opening for a Chief Engineer. This position will be based in Orchard Park, NY. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of this location as relocation assistance is not available.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $123750.0 - $181500.0 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

As Chief Engineer, you will report directly to the Senior Manager for Actuation, MSD. You will provide technical subject matter expertise (SME) for the Actuation product line, which includes Weapons Carriage and Release (WC&R), Missile Actuation, Space Propulsion, Emergency Actuation, and Releases and Restraints (R&R).

You will serve as a technical subject matter expert, create your own strategy, direction, and priorities, and lead the team to drive business results and improvements for the division/region. You will provide technical solutions based on existing and personally developed technology. You will possess a broad strategic vision of the Aerospace MSD Actuation future products and services and provide consultation in your chosen area of expertise. You will be involved in a wide variety and large number of projects, conduct feasibility studies ensuring that objectives are met and are within budget, and provide technical approvals and governance for programs. You will manage external supplier relationships and effectively work with all business functions to identify issues and create and drive solutions to completion.

What you'll do:

• Manage complex projects/programs involving multiple components for completeness, compatibility, and compliance. Influence engineering at the division level. Identify opportunities / connections within the company and technical associations which can enhance business performance.
• Develop and execute ownership of engineering technical roadmaps. Utilize domain expertise to drive innovation and technology roadmap activities aligned to customer needs
• Ensure Actuation products align with the office of the MSD Divisional Chief Engineer. Incumbent will act as subject matter expert with the flexibility to apply their expertise to different product lines within the aerospace division.
• Keep a broad strategic vision of the company's future products and services.
• Generate technical solutions and ensure accountability for the integrity of design solutions on multiple programs including program technical and design reviews with key signatory approval.
• Drive best practice methodologies for MSD Actuation products (mechanical, electrical, software) across aerospace with proven methods & tools and serves as the "surrogate customer" for quality acceptance of all products & technical deliverables by personally getting involved, designing, teaching coaching & mentoring
• Champion the Eaton Aerospace Common Engineering Standards (ACES) with responsibility for ensuring correct deployment, execution and adherence thereafter. Key signatory and gate keeper on ACES driven program reviews.
• Drive complete design of components or systems to meet customer requirements of performance & cost
• Collaborate with customers and anticipates the future based on a deep understanding and familiarity of current technology trends and directions.
• Collaborate with suppliers on technical offerings and design approval.
• Serve as key technical lead to the Integrated Program Development Team, and to customers on large and complex programs.
• Key interface to relevant professional organizations and standards bodies. Proactively represent and promote Eaton Aerospace by taking an active role in external forums.
• Facilitate and lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities, serves as approver for RCCAs
• Facilitate cross-Eaton support of Aerospace design review & technical audits
• Lead Non Advocate Reviews across Aerospace programs as tasked
• Teach and promote application of Design For Six Sigma tools and methods

• Review and judge the suitability of requirements management plan and systems engineering plan on the program for technical and non-technical requirements.
• Facilitate cross-functional technical exchanges relating requirements of verification, aircraft systems operations and airworthiness certification and other areas adjacent to requirements management
• Mentoring within the engineering organization

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
• Minimum 10 years of experience within aerospace or a high-tech industry with new product development and sustaining support.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical actuation components and/or systems.
• This position requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8U.S.C. § 1158.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Advanced Engineering degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 15 years of experience within aerospace industry with new product development and sustaining support that is specific to mechanical and electrical actuation systems
• Minimum 10 years' experience in mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical actuation components and/or systems.
• Key role in aerospace related professional organization
• DFSS Greenbelt with a development plan for Blackbelt certification.

• Strong communication and collaboration with engineers, engineering leadership, suppliers and customers.

• Ability to interact with business and technology leaders

• Ability to lead product investigations through 8D methodology

• Work in a matrix organization within a global virtual engineering organization
• Network divisional resources
• Develop productive working relationships with functions and organizations outside of Engineering
• Develop working relationships within the Aerospace engineering community
• Develop working relationships with customers
• Travel up to 10%, with some international travel.
