The Systems Engineering family is responsible for the entire technical effort to evolve and verify solutions that satisfy client needs. The primary focus is centered on reducing risk and improving the efficiency, performance, stability, security, and quality of all systems and platforms.

The Principal Platform Engineer is a member of the Mainframe Performance team. This is a highly technical position responsible for the overall performance of the Mainframe environment. Duties include the balancing resources across the Z system complex, reporting and analysis of performance metrics, system tuning, and responding to issues. This position requires proven leadership skills to coordinate and lead initiatives regarding mainframe performance and effectively coordinate with various IT groups and Product Mana
Your Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide L2 diagnostics and production support of a large z/OS mainframe environment.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in z/OS subsystems and applications.
  • Drive modernization and observability efforts, including new tools and products to enhance reporting, alerting, and advanced analytics.
  • Analyze and tune CPU, Memory, I/O, Network, and the Parallel Sysplex.
  • Support subsystem SME's including DB2, CICS, Network, and Storage.
  • Design and tune the LPAR configuration.
  • Configure and support performance testing environments; analyze results.
  • Improve mainframe cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure proper prioritization of critical path batch workloads.
  • Maintain ThruPut Manager policies.
  • Train operations staff on L1 performance diagnostics.
  • Provide consulting services to IT staff on performance issues.
  • Serve as a trusted coach and mentor within the team.
  • Communicate effectively across the organization
  • Mitigates risk by following established procedures and monitoring controls, spotting key errors and demonstrating strong ethical behavior.

Talents Needed For Success:
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience
Additional Qualifications:
  • Expertise with BMC Mainview
  • Expertise in z/OS Workload Manager
  • Expertise in ThruPut Manager
  • Intermediate to strong SAS coding skills including SAS macros and SAS/GRAPH. Working knowledge of MICS and SAS/MXG
  • Working knowledge of z/OS internals - ASM, RSM, IOS, HSM, JES2, etc.
  • Working knowledge of performance aspects of DB2. MQ, CICS and WebSphere
  • Strong teamwork skills
