Job Summary:

The Advertising Platforms team is responsible for creating and scaling innovative global advertising solutions by building mission-critical tools and workflows to support digital & linear ad sales, traffic, marketing, and parts of broadcast operations. This Senior Data Engineer will contribute to Disney's success by partnering with business, analytics, and infrastructure teams to design and build data pipelines to deliver batch and real time data for analytics and reporting capabilities to the Linear Ad Sales business unit. Collaborating across disciplines, they will identify internal/external data sources, design table structure, define data pipeline strategy & automated Data Quality checks. You will also help mentor and guide other more junior data engineers in their data pipeline development.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Contribute to the design and growth of our Data Products and Data Warehouses around Ad data.

  • Use strong analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify solutions for recommendation.

  • Partner with technical and non-technical colleagues to understand data and reporting requirements, and Collaborate with Data Product Managers, Data Architects, and other Data Engineers to design, implement, and deliver successful data solutions

  • Contribute to the design of table structures and defining of data pipelines to build performant Data solutions that are reliable and scalable in a fast-growing data ecosystem.

  • Develop Data Quality framework and data checks and Build safeguards for pipeline failures and minimize data quality issues.

  • Develop and maintain ETL routines using ETL and orchestration tools such as Airflow

  • Serve as an advanced resource to other Data Engineers on the team, and mentor and coach more junior members of the team helping to improve their skills, knowledge, and productivity.

  • Design and implement the different stages of the Data pipelines, using AWS and Snowflake.

  • Collaborate with others to identify new ways to help make our data platform more scalable, resilient, and reliable and then work across our team to put your ideas into action.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience developing large data pipelines.

  • Strong understanding of data modeling principles including Dimensional modeling & data normalization principles.

  • Strong expertise in writing SQL queries and a deep understanding of Kafka, Spark, and Snowflake.

  • Familiarity with AWS services, including Lambda, CloudWatch, Step Functions, EC2, CloudFormation, and Jenkins.

  • Strong understanding of SQL Engines and able to conduct advanced performance tuning.

  • Strong communication skills – in both written and verbal presentations.

  • Familiarity with Agile Scrum principles and ceremonies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in a related field, and/or related certification/s

  • Strong experience programming languages (e.g. Java, Scala, Python, Pyspark)

  • Strong experience with data orchestration/ETL tools (Airflow, Nifi)

  • Experience with Snowflake/Databricks/EMR/Spark

  • Experience with AWS, Azure, Kafka or other cloud technologies

  • Experience with Machine Learning / AI a plus

The hiring range for this position in Bristol, Connecticut is $136,038 to $182,490 per year, in Glendale, California is $136,038 to $182,490 per year, and in New York City, NY is $142.516 to $191,180 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
