About the Role & Team
Disney's Animal Kingdom is looking for candidates for an Animal Keeper Associate position on the Ituri Forest team. In this role you will cultivate your animal husbandry and teamwork skills as you work with a large team of keepers, caring for a variety of animals. You will also have a practical understanding of antelope and/or pachyderm general husbandry, enrichment, and operant conditioning as it relates to the daily management and research of the species in their care.
This is a Casual Temporary / Seasonal role with no guarantee of weekly working hours, as hours will fluctuate based on business needs. You will report to the Zoological Manager team.

- Work closely with a large team to assist in the care, well-being, management, behavioral conditioning and enrichment of the Ituri Forest animal collection which includes: Black Rhino, Okapi, Nile Hippo, Bongo, Kudu, Nile Crocodile, Pink-backed Pelicans and Saddle-billed Storks
- Ensure the daily routines of cleaning, animal observation, diet preparation and reporting medical needs and abnormal conditions to Zoological Managers
- Maintain daily records, collecting and logging information and ensuring this information is communicated to management and the central animal record keeping system
- The work includes physical labor in ambient outdoor temperatures and weather conditions in Central Florida, which may include extreme heat and humidity
- Partner with maintenance, operation managers, horticulture, veterinary staff, educators, and scientists. Keepers also provide animal information and conservation messages through Guest and Cast interactions
- Our animals are cared for 7 days a week, so you must have full availability, including weekends and holidays
- You will be working a variety of shifts including early morning start times of 5 a.m. with the potential to work evening shifts ending as late at 12 a.m.
Required Qualification & Skills
- Prior animal husbandry experience within Disney's Animals, Science & Environment
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role including lifting manure, moving doors, and carrying heavy objects (bales of bedding, feed bags, etc.)
- Demonstrable observation, evaluation, and data collecting skills
- Demonstrable Guest service skills
- Computer literacy
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 year Associate's or 4 year college degree in Biology or related field
- Experience working with large terrestrial mammals
- Practical knowledge and experience with operant conditioning
